Appearance[edit | edit source]
Vinegar is a large and muscular Serpent with light purple skin, long dark brown hair, and white horns. His facial features include long pointed ears, giving him a distinctively menacing appearance. He wears a beige Mongolian-style fur hat resembling a condiment bottle cap, similar to Salt's hat, although Salt's is larger and brown. His attire consists of musk-green and dark blue upper body armor over a dark blue leotard, with an abdominal window that reveals his six-pack. He also sports musk-green bracers with white edges and white boots with musk-green armored tips. Vinegar is the tallest and most muscular member of the Spice Boys.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Vinegar is hot-headed, impulsive, and cocky. He often has to be restrained by Spice or Garlic Jr., such as when he nearly kills an unconscious Piccolo after the latter was infected by the Black Water Mist. Spice explains that killing Piccolo would make him unable to use the Dragon Balls, to which Vinegar reluctantly agrees but expresses a desire to kill him later.
Despite his brutish demeanor, Vinegar shows concern for his comrades. For example, when Salt and Mustard struggle against Gohan, Vinegar wants to intervene but is ordered to stand down by Garlic Jr. He becomes enraged and seeks vengeance when Salt and Mustard are killed.
Vinegar's understanding of the Black Water Mist is limited, often requiring repeated explanations from Spice. Like the other Spice Boys, he is sadistic and merciless, relishing the sight of Gohan being beaten by a possessed Piccolo. He also enjoys tormenting Krillin, mockingly beating him and kicking him off the Lookout while ridiculing his unconscious body.
In the Funimation dub, Vinegar speaks with a gruff Southern accent.
Biography[edit | edit source]
After Garlic Jr. infects the Earth with the mist, Vinegar and the other Spice Boys are tasked with subduing key opponents, including Piccolo. Initially, Vinegar is eager to fight Piccolo directly after the latter insults Garlic Jr., but Spice restrains his impulsiveness, emphasizing their need for Piccolo to use the Dragon Balls. Despite his frustrations, Vinegar listens but expresses a desire to kill Piccolo later.
Once Gohan and Krillin arrive at Kami's Lookout, Vinegar and his comrades spectate as Salt and Mustard engage the duo. Gohan's latent power surfaces, allowing him to defeat both Salt and Mustard. Vinegar, along with Spice, watches as a thrashing, infected Piccolo seems to be fighting against Gohan, but the battle takes a turn when Piccolo reveals he was pretending to be infected and aids Gohan and Krillin in freeing Kami and Mr. Popo.
In the ensuing battle, Vinegar faces Krillin, easily overwhelming him. Vinegar's power is demonstrated when he catches Krillin's Destructo Disc and uses it against him. However, Gohan intervenes, saving Krillin and blasting Vinegar away. After Garlic Jr. activates the Makyo Star, Vinegar is resurrected and transformed, becoming larger, more muscular, and significantly more powerful.
In his enhanced form, Vinegar proves to be a formidable foe. He decisively defeats Krillin, kicking him off Kami's Lookout, which triggers Gohan's anger and latent power. In the climactic moment, Gohan channels his fury into a powerful Double Masenko attack that annihilates both Vinegar and Spice, putting an end to their menace.
