==Personality== Otto Octavius is initially portrayed as a responsible, moral, and idealistic individual. Much like Peter Parker, he understands the importance of using his intelligence for the greater good rather than personal gain. His selflessness is exemplified through his dedication to building the fusion reactor, motivated by a vision of providing limitless clean energy rather than seeking wealth or fame. This belief is encapsulated in his advice to Peter, emphasizing that intelligence is not a privilege but a gift to be used for noble purposes. Otto's hard-working nature is evident in his unwavering commitment to his work. He dedicates himself fully to perfecting the reactor, even to the point of ignoring social interactions and prioritizing his research. He pushes Peter to strive for greatness, chiding him for laziness despite his brilliance. Otto's enthusiasm for science also shines through his interactions with Peter, bonding with him over their shared passion and encouraging his intellectual pursuits. Grateful for Oscorp's support, Otto willingly meets Peter at Harry Osborn's request, showcasing his sense of gratitude and humility. Otto is also portrayed as a devoted husband, deeply in love with his wife Rosalie. Her tragic death during the reactor's failure leaves him heartbroken, underscoring his human vulnerability and capacity for love. However, his inability to accept criticism and his firm belief in the infallibility of his work foreshadow his eventual downfall. After the Neural Inhibitor Chip on his tentacles is damaged, Otto's personality undergoes a dramatic shift. The tentacles, now controlling his mind, amplify his darker traits, pushing him to pursue his experiment at any cost. He becomes cruel, sardonic, and unrelenting in his determination, even developing a grim sense of humor. Otto's moral compass is eroded as he justifies harming innocents, such as endangering an elderly woman and kidnapping [[Mary Jane Watson (Raimi)|Mary Jane Watson]] to lure Spider-Man. His disregard for the potential destruction of New York City highlights the extent of his corruption under the tentacles' influence. Ultimately, Otto regains control of his mind upon realizing the consequences of his actions. Recognizing his mistakes and the harm he has caused, he redeems himself by shutting down the reactor and sacrificing his life to save the city. This act of selflessness reflects his earlier ideals, completing his arc as a man who sought to use his intelligence for the greater good, even at the cost of his own life.
