=== Battle City === During the Battle City tournament, Marik infiltrated the competition alongside his Rare Hunters. Using the Millennium Rod, he controlled others to challenge the Pharaoh, revealing his intentions. One key moment was when he directed Strings, a Rare Hunter, to Duel the Pharaoh using "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and a near-perfect combo of cards. However, Yami Yugi, with encouragement from Kaiba, exploited a flaw in the strategy, forcing Strings into a loop that led to a deck-out loss. Yami won the Duel, claiming "Slifer the Sky Dragon." Marik’s tactics grew increasingly cruel as he brainwashed Joey Wheeler and Téa Gardner to manipulate Yami Yugi. He disguised himself as "Namu" to infiltrate their group while Odion impersonated him in the tournament. However, the ruse began to unravel when Odion used a counterfeit "Ra" card, angering the true "Ra," which struck both Duelists with lightning. This event allowed Yami Marik to emerge fully, trapping Marik’s true self in a mental prison. As the tournament progressed, Marik’s conscience began to surface. Through [[Téa Gardner|Téa]], he begged for forgiveness and asked Yami Yugi to defeat Yami Marik, even if it meant his own destruction. With Odion’s awakening and encouragement, Marik regained control, turned Yami Marik into the victim of a Shadow Game, and forfeited the final Duel. Yami Marik was destroyed, and Marik surrendered the Millennium Rod and the "Winged Dragon of Ra" card to the Pharaoh.
