Vanessa is first introduced playing tennis with her boyfriend, Ken. Her life takes a turn when she saves Barry from [[Ken (Bee Movie)|Ken]], who attempts to kill him with a large boot. After rescuing him, she gently places him on a flower and speaks to him, leading to their first meaningful interaction.

Later, after hearing Barry speak for the first time, Vanessa is initially skeptical, even poking herself with a fork to confirm that she isn't dreaming. Despite her disbelief, she and Barry bond over their shared love of flowers and their uncertain futures. As the story progresses, their friendship deepens, and Vanessa becomes an ally in Barry's fight against the human exploitation of honey.

Vanessa's support for Barry extends to the courtroom, where she helps him challenge the honey industry, ultimately leading to a legal victory. However, the bees' newfound control over honey causes unintended consequences, including the death of flowers due to a lack of pollination. In the face of this crisis, Vanessa must close her flower shop.

In a pivotal moment, Vanessa takes control of an airplane when the pilots are incapacitated, saving the day and showing immense courage. With Barry's encouragement, she manages the flight, and together, they prevent further destruction to the environment. Their teamwork leads to the revival of the flowers and a return to harmony for both bees and humans.

In the final scenes, Vanessa continues her work as a florist, now co-owning a shop with Barry, who helps her sell bee-approved honey and provides legal advice. As the movie closes, Vanessa mentions receiving a large order of tulips for a wedding, with Barry and the Pollen Jocks helping her fulfill it just in time.
