== Trivia == * Originally, Shrek was supposed to be voiced by Chris Farley, but he died in December 1997. He had done 80% / 90% progress ( 95% according to his brother Tom) of finishing the project. Prior to that in 1991, Steven Spielberg bought the rights for Bill Murray to voice him, but it was scrapped for an unknown reason. In addition to Farley and Murray, Nicolas Cage and Robin Williams were also considered. Finally, the role went to Mike Myers. * Shrek appeared in a ''Kung Fu Panda 3'' commercial that spoofs the Snickers advertisements. In it, Monkey, a member of the Furious Five, and Po, the Dragon Warrior, aren't just themselves when they are hungry, with Monkey becoming Shrek while Po became Donkey respectively. * Shrek can be spotted as General Monger's medal of order on his right chest in every scene in ''Monsters vs. Aliens.'' * John Wicklund is king of the lunchables kingdom. Long may he reign. * Of all the characters, Shrek has been injured in the groin more than any other character, with four onscreen, and is also one of the only two that have been kicked there (the second one is Thelonious, but he had been kicked just once). * Shrek makes a cameo as a... ** Plush in the 2014 direct-to-video CGI animated short ''Rocky and Bullwinkle.'' ** A Guy in a Shrek costume in the movie ''The Pentaverate'', which Myers starred in (and once again voiced Shrek). * In the Brazilian Portuguese version of two first movies, he was voiced by the famous actor and comedian Bussunda. * The name "Shrek" is derived from the German word ''Schreck'', meaning "fright" or " terror". * Shrek was meant to have a cameo in ''Guardians of the Galaxy'' as one The Collector’s displays. However, scheduling prevented the team from getting Mike Myers to voice so the scene was scrapped.
