Accelerated Development is the ability to enhance one's statistics and/or abilities at a much faster rate than a typical character in the setting. Users of this ability can achieve significant improvements with far less effort and time, sometimes effortlessly increasing their overall power.

Types of Accelerated Development

Accelerated Development can be categorized based on two main properties:

Cause of Accelerated Development

  1. Training: The character gains increased results from performing training that is appropriate for raising a statistic or ability.
  2. Battle: The ability to rapidly increase one's overall strength or other physical capabilities by engaging in combat, becoming more capable over the course of a fight. This provides a significant edge in battle, as users can potentially strengthen themselves to match or exceed opponents who were previously on par with or more powerful than them. This should not be confused with Reactive Evolution, which allows for the development of new powers and resistances in response to enemy attacks and may include battle-oriented Accelerated Development. In contrast, battle-oriented Accelerated Development strictly improves existing abilities without granting new ones.
  3. Leveling: Typically used in RPG-like settings, the character gains more experience than others for performing the same tasks and/or receives larger increases upon leveling up.
  4. Passive: The character can train by doing either nothing in particular, just everyday activities, or things they can constantly do alongside everyday life.
  5. Other: Various other causes of accelerated growth are possible and should be explained in character profiles if applicable.

Type of Developing Property

  1. Physical Statistics: The user's strength, speed, and/or durability grow at a faster pace than normal. This can be further categorized by which specific statistics grow more quickly.
  2. Intelligence: The user's intelligence grows rapidly, or they can quickly expand their knowledge through their high intelligence.
  3. Abilities: The user can learn new skills and abilities, or improve and master them, at a much faster rate than normal.
  4. Other: Various other properties could develop at an accelerated rate or only specific subsets of the above apply. Such cases should be explained in character profiles.

Limitations of Accelerated Development

  1. Maximum Potential: A character might have a maximum potential beyond which they cannot grow.
  2. Increased Taxation: Training using this ability might be more taxing than normal.
  3. Discontinuous Increase: The additional increase might occur discontinuously, such as only gaining more points than normal upon leveling up.
