Benji (The Inbetweeners)

Benji was a canine owned by Terry Cartwright and Mrs Cartwright and their son, Jay Cartwright. He was put down and died in the episode "Home Alone”

Biography

He is first seen when Terry and Jay's mother head out to see Jay's granddad's grave stone and Jay asks if they can take Benji. Terry refuses to bring him, calling him a "shitting machine". When Jay states that he likes the fresh air, Terry replies with "So do my bollocks, doesn't mean I take them out every time I go to a graveyard".

While they're out, Jay plans to masturbate, only to stop when he sees Benji watching him. He feels like the dog is judging him so he fails to do so. He mentions to Simon, Neil and Will how distracting it is, and that when he shuts him out in the hallway he scratches at the door, which is even more distracting.

When Jay stays over at Will's house, he gets the idea to tell his dad that Benji shit in the house so he can be left outside, saying "Then I can wank freely without him judging me".

The next morning, when the angry neighbour is banging on the door Jay receives a text from his father, who reveals he had Benji put down - "He said once they start shitting in doors it's basically the end anyway, kindest thing to do. What have I done?"

During Camping Trip, whilst playing Monopoly, Jay says he wants to be the dog. When asked why, he says "It reminds me of Benji".
