A bodyguard, also known as a close protection officer or operative, is a form of security personnel, government law enforcement officer, or military member responsible for safeguarding an important individual or group, such as high-ranking public officials, affluent businesspeople, and celebrities, from potential threats. The team assigned to protect a VIP is commonly referred to as the VIP's security detail.
