Osmosis "Ozzy" Jones is a humanised white blood cell and the protagonist of the 2001 animated film Osmosis Jones. He is a rebellious and disgraced white blood cell officer of the Frank PD (basically the human body of Frank Detorre). As an overzealous blue and white blood cell with little respect for authority, he was discredited, suspended for unnecessary force and placed in out-of-the-way patrols inside the human body of Frank, and he strives for chance to prove his value to the rest of the cells in Frank PD.

Personality and Appearance

Osmosis Jones is an adventurous, rebellious, and funny white-blood cell who tries to keep Frank DeTorre healthy. Being a cell, his body's soft and pliable. His cytoplasm's baby blue and his membrane's translucent. Throughout the film, he tries to gain the affections of Leah Estrogen and gets them at the end of the film. His shape-shifting ability's very handy and serviceable, and it has served him well in both in the movie and the show.

Biography

Osmosis Jones (film)

Ozzy's first shown as part of the Mouth Patrol, when the viewer sees the inside of Frank for the first time. While he and his partner are chasing some bacteria, they were sucked into the lungs by a massive yawn. He tried to pursue the bacteria on foot, but he accidentally triggered a major muscle cramp in Frank's right leg. Then the Chief gave him a chance to redeem himself by assigning him with Drix to check out some inflammation in the Throat. When he's there, he discovered that it might not just be your everyday inflammation.

Then he gained more information from the Brain Memory Library and Chill, which leads him and Drix to a confrontation with Thrax at the Zit club. Ozzy and Drix are then both fired by the mayor after they accidentally destroyed the zit with a medicine grenade. That night when Ozzy decided to go take a walk around the city, he is further humiliated when the Mayor made the local newspaper release a new article called "Loser Cop Fired", making his even reputation worse. He then went see a dream at the Dreamplex theatre where he soon discovered that Thrax was still alive and that he had infiltrated the Brain. After getting Drix back on board, they gave chase to Thrax (who had also taken Leah hostage) to the uvula. After nearly cornering him, Thrax manages triggers a sneeze with pollen as a distraction before riding the shockwave out of Frank.

Ozzy proceeds after Thrax via Drix's cannon knocking them both onto Shane's eye. Ozzy's fight with Thrax eventually leads them both to one of Shane's false eyelashes. Upon realizing such as it was disconnecting, Thrax makes one final attempt to kill Ozzy stating he won't be around for when he kills Shane. Luckily, Ozzy, thinking that Thrax is way too dangerous to be left alive and to be left alone, had tricked Thrax into jamming his claw into the falsie and made a run for it with the chain. He managed to jump to safety as falsie came loose which fell into a beaker of rubbing alcohol causing Thrax to dissolve in so much pain as he tried to get out. Then Ozzy rode on one of Shane's tears back to Frank ultimately saving him in the nick of time. He is then reinstated to the Immunity with full privileges, Drix as his new partner, and Leah as his girlfriend.

Ozzy & Drix

After a year they defeated Thrax, he and Drix were transferred from Frank (who recently resumed his poor eating habits) to Hector by a Mosquito. At first, he was reluctant to stay, but soon they realized that they can do more good in Hector than they ever could in Frank. He also reminds Hector of Frank when he was that age. His personality's slightly lighter than it was in the Movie, since he cracks more jokes, and that they're an amazing team.

Trivia

  • When animating Osmosis the animators observed Chris Rock as he recorded for him, and put little traits of the actor in his character, most notably his Cheshire Cat grin.
  • The directors of the movie had originally tried to get Will Smith to voice Ozzy. He was interested, but he couldn’t due to schedule conflict.
  • Ozzy was voiced by Chris Rock in the film while in the show he was by voiced Phil LaMarr, who also provided voices for characters such as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Virgil Hawkins/Static from Static Shock, Hermes Conrad from Futurama, and Wilt from Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.
    • Anthony Anderson, D.L. Hughley, Matthew Broderick, Alex Winter, Harry Connick Jr., John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Chris Tucker, Chris O'Donnell, Todd Stashwick and Martin Short were all considered to voice Osmosis Jones.
  • In the first episode episode of Ozzy & Drix, he was shown working snot patrol and desiring to get a promotion which doesn't make sense as he was seemingly promoted at the end of the movie. It's possible he did something bad that caused him to get demoted again or the show takes place in a different universe, which could also explain why Frank was still unhealthy and gluttonous despite dedicating himself to a more healthy lifestyle at the end of the movie.
  • In the show, he and other cell's are required to wear anti-coagulation suits when outside of the human body to survive, but in the movie he fought Thrax outside of Frank's body for a while just fine.
  • Ozzy's one of the only characters in the movie to have a first name that's a biological reference and a normal last name, the other being Leah. In the show this is also true with characters like Cilia Tyson, and others, such as Maria Amino, are reversed and have biological names as their last name.
  • Ozzy has a an intense dislike of Paul Spryman, yet tries to get him to see reason for the sake of Hector. Spryman, of course, shares the mutual feeling, believing he and Drix just ‘get in the way of his plans’, though most of those plans aren’t very good. Their rivalry consists of Ozzy trying to educate and inform him of what’s going on (Much to Spryman’s boredom/annoyance.), calling him out on his foolish choices and blunders, and even pulling pranks on him like taking his game cartridges and putting Sylvian Fisher’s growth formula under his baseball hat. The latter punishes him and Drix for this, but more so for their selfless yet unorthodox acts for Hector’s best interest or just getting in his way generally. Ozzy also doesn’t respect Chief Gluteus of the HPD, who constantly takes credit for his and Drix’s saving the day (An act that Spryman also takes part in.). He makes funny jokes about his being incompetent as a cop, and sometimes during unfortunate mishaps that happen to the chief because of said incompetence. (Shown in The Conqueror Worm when the chief gets splashed with acid.)
