Appearance[edit | edit source]

Nancy is an attractive and striking woman, exuding a relaxed and bohemian charm that aligns with her New Age-inspired lifestyle. She often dresses in flowing, colorful clothing and casual outfits that reflect her free-spirited nature. Her style is effortlessly chic, giving her an approachable and carefree aura that initially draws Jeremy to her.

Nancy’s warm and engaging smile complements her inviting personality, and her blonde hair is usually styled in loose, natural waves, emphasizing her laid-back demeanor. Her overall appearance radiates a mix of youthful energy and sensual confidence, making her stand out as both captivating and enigmatic.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Nancy is charming and sweet on the surface, with an inviting appearance, but her personality reveals a self-absorbed and sexually manipulative streak. She exhibits pseudo-intellectual tendencies, often oversimplifying ideas, and openly admits to being "underqualified" for even a basic spa job. Inspired by New Age philosophies, Nancy's outlook seems to be a form of rebellion against her strict, conservative Christian upbringing. She strives for sexual liberation, pursuing unconventional taboos with Jeremy—including, paradoxically, total abstinence, which she deems the "last taboo."

Biography[edit | edit source]

Nancy's relationship with Jeremy is fraught with tension and inconsistency. While their status as a couple remains ambiguous, she sleeps with Gwyn while dating Jeremy and later hooks up with Super Hans during Mark's wedding, despite attending as Jeremy's guest. Jeremy's infatuation blinds him to her betrayals, and he continues to pursue her despite her indifference.

Nancy marries Jeremy for visa purposes and shows little sympathy for his genuine love for her. On their wedding day, she leaves the reception early for a job interview at a health club, highlighting her self-centered nature. Her presence in Jeremy and Mark's flat quickly becomes a source of tension, with antics such as forcing Jeremy to endure marathon sessions of Robin Williams movies. This ultimately drives Jeremy to have an affair with Toni, which he confesses to Nancy, effectively ending any chance of reconciliation.

Nancy’s mother is notably displeased with her decision to marry Jeremy. After series 2, Nancy disappears for some time, reportedly joining Belgian nuns, developing a crystal meth addiction, and managing an IMAX theater in Bradford for a year and a half.

She briefly reappears in series 4 as an employee at Champers Spa in South London (Gym). Despite exploring other romantic prospects, Jeremy attempts to rekindle their relationship, even going as far as sabotaging her romance with Matt Townsend through outlandish lies (including accusations of pool defecation and sexual misconduct by Mark). These desperate efforts ultimately fail.

Before Mark’s wedding, Nancy re-enters Jeremy's life after a fight with her father over her return to America. However, Super Hans ends up picking her up on a moped instead of Jeremy. At the wedding, Jeremy sees Nancy and Super Hans making out on a bench, which pushes him to vow to divorce her, though she repeatedly forgets they were even married (Wedding).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Although her character is American, Rachel Blanchard has quite a noticeable Canadian accent.
  • Although it's possible Nancy faced deportation after Jeremy divorced her, she is mentioned in Quantocking II when Mark recommends Jeremy stop thinking about Dobby by seeing what Nancy's up to, suggesting she still resides in the UK.
  • Becoming Jeremy's main love interest when actress Elizabeth Marmur became unavailable for more episodes, Rachel Blanchard was replaced by Sophie Winkleman as the new love interest when Blanchard herself became unavailable.
  • Nancy is quite oblivious of her lack of depth and she is a terrible singer. (Jeremy Makes It)
  • Nancy is friends with Sophie and Karen, although they do not share any scenes.
