Elena is a self-absorbed and chaotic young woman who works part-time as a legal secretary specializing in human rights law at the London Immigration Advice Network. She supplements her income by dealing cannabis. When she begins a relationship with Jeremy, her unpredictable nature repeatedly drags him into trouble, including an incident where he takes the blame for her after she is caught watching porn at work.
A skilled musician, Elena has studied violin to an advanced level and has some experience with the piano. She is sexually attracted to single fathers and later reveals that she is bisexual. She is in a long-term relationship with Gail, who lives in flat 16, but initially keeps this a secret from Jeremy. The eventual revelation of her affair with Jeremy causes significant conflict.
Elena is flighty and struggles with relationship communication, though she proves to be an intellectual equal to Jeremy. She has a penchant for spelt bread and claims to be wheat-intolerant.
After the events of Series 6, it remains unclear whether Elena and Gail stay together.
