Appearance[edit | edit source]
The smallest of the trio, Ginger closely resembles Garlic Jr. in appearance, except for his skull-like nose, which gives him a bat-like or vampiric look. He has dark olive skin, red eyes, and is often clad in a large, dark cloak.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Ginger is the most cunning and calculating of Garlic Jr.'s henchmen, often taking charge and displaying leadership qualities among the trio. He demonstrates a sadistic streak, shown in his delight at overpowering his opponents and taunting them during battle. Unlike Nicky and Sansho, Ginger is more vocal and expressive, often making theatrical displays of his attacks and exuding confidence in his abilities.
Despite his bravado, Ginger is fiercely loyal to Garlic Jr., following his orders without hesitation and working tirelessly to ensure their master's plans succeed. However, his arrogance can lead to underestimating opponents, as evidenced by his failure to defeat Goku despite his transformation and weaponized techniques. Ginger's personality reflects his adaptability and resourcefulness, but also his overconfidence and reliance on brute strength and intimidation.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone[edit | edit source]
Ginger, alongside Nicky and Sansho, attacks Piccolo under Garlic Jr.'s orders, defeating him in an attempt to eliminate Kami. Later, while searching for Dragon Balls, Ginger locates the four-star Dragon Ball on Gohan's hat. When Chi-Chi and Ox-King resist handing it over, he easily incapacitates them. Despite Gohan's efforts to escape, Ginger captures him and takes him back to Garlic Castle, surprised by Garlic Jr.'s decision to keep and train the boy.
After retrieving the last two Dragon Balls, Ginger celebrates as Garlic Jr. wishes for immortality. When Goku arrives to rescue his son, Ginger joins Nicky and Sansho to block his path. Transforming into a larger and more powerful form, Ginger battles Goku using various techniques, including pulling scimitars from his arms for melee combat.
Despite his efforts, Goku overpowers Ginger, eventually disarming him of his swords. Goku's punches and a powerful kick send Ginger off a balcony, prompting him to fire a desperate Full Power Energy Wave. Goku counters with a Kamehameha, overwhelming Ginger's attack and propelling him into Nicky and a nearby tower. The blast destroys the structure, burying both Ginger and Nicky in rubble. Ginger's hand briefly twitches from the debris before going limp as he dies.
Fusion Reborn[edit | edit source]
Ginger later appears in a cameo alongside other villains who escape from Hell when Janemba breaks the barrier between dimensions. He is ultimately sent back to Hell.

Attacks and Techniques[edit | edit source]
Flight – The ability to fly using ki manipulation.
Kiai – A technique where Ginger releases an invisible shockwave of ki from his palm to attack or push back opponents.
Shogayaki Buster – A powerful pink energy wave fired from the palm, capable of inflicting significant damage.
Katana Kogeki – Ginger draws two scimitars from his arms and uses them to attack his opponent. This technique is referred to as Internal Weapon (Two Swords) in Daizenshuu 7.
Unnamed Spinning Technique – A collaborative maneuver where Ginger, Nicky, and Sansho spin rapidly around their opponent, creating a vortex. They simultaneously attack while flying and finish by slamming the opponent into the ground.
Gigantification: By calling out his signature phrase, Ginger can transform into a larger and more muscular state, commonly referred to as his "Super" form. He utilizes this enhanced form during his battle with Goku to increase his power and durability.
Though this transformation closely resembles the one used by Garlic Jr., Spice, and Vinegar, there is some inconsistency in its classification. Daizenshuu 7 does not explicitly list Nicky among the users of this transformation, whereas Daizenshuu 6 identifies it as the same as Garlic Jr.'s form, suggesting a possible oversight or variation in interpretation between the guides.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- In the original Japanese version, Ginger's battle cry is "Shogayaki!"—a pun on his name, as it translates to "grilled pork." In the Pioneer and Funimation dubs, he shouts "Gingerbread!" while the AB Groupe dub uses "Yes, start," and the Speedy dub opts for "Sugar yuki!"
- The name "Ginger" is reused in the Imperfect Cell Saga as the namke of Gingertown, the city whose inhabitants were absorbed by Cell.
- Piccolo had a driving instructor named Ginger in certain dubs during the filler episode where he and Goku trained for their driver's licenses. However, her official name is Cynthia (Shinshia).
- Ginger bears a resemblance to a Saibaman but is taller and has olive green skin compared to the Saibaman's lighter green complexion.
- Ginger is notable as the first and only named movie henchman to fight Chi-Chi. The only other instance of Chi-Chi fighting movie antagonists is against some of Slug's soldiers in Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug.
- ↑ Chi Chi is superior to Chappa, who Yamcha praised as having g*dlike strength, with Yamcha being capable of keeping up with Tien, who is equal to 22nd Budokai Goku
