Afterimages

From The Character Database

An afterimage is an artistic effect where a character appears to leave faint, transparent silhouettes behind them, resembling ghosts. This technique is typically used to emphasize fast movement, often in combat, to mislead opponents about the character's actual location. Afterimages occur when a character moves too quickly for the eye to track accurately, causing the brain to incorrectly process these images. At best, creating afterimages qualifies as Subsonic speed. Claims that afterimages indicate faster-than-light movement are based on faulty reasoning and are generally considered outliers for most characters.
