Biography[edit | edit source]
Background[edit | edit source]
Contrary to what both Shin and Bibidi claim, the being known as Majin Buu was not actually created by Bibidi. Buu has existed since time immemorial, far predating Bibidi's attempts to harness his power. Bibidi's true contribution was discovering the method to awaken Buu from his extended dormancy.
In his quest to dominate Universe 7, Bibidi fortuitously managed to summon Kid Buu, the most primal and unrestrained form of Majin Buu. Shortly after his summoning, Buu annihilated Planet Alpha, demonstrating his destructive might. During this rampage, Bibidi nearly met his end at Buu's hands but managed to fend off the monster by declaring himself Buu's "father." Using this deception, Bibidi controlled Buu and unleashed him against the Supreme Kais who governed the universe at that time. Buu killed the West and North Supreme Kais and absorbed the South Supreme Kai, augmenting his power.
When Majin Buu absorbed the Grand Supreme Kai, he transformed into a plumper, childlike version known as Innocent Buu, who was notably more benign and capable of speech. Initially, Bibidi was taken aback by this transformation, but he quickly realized that this version of Buu was more tractable, especially when lured with promises of food.
Despite this newfound docility, Buu’s unpredictable nature remained a concern for Bibidi. To manage Buu's volatility, Bibidi devised a Sealed Ball to trap the monster temporarily. He used this magical ball as both a reward system and a method of transportation, promising Buu sweets for good behavior and resealing him when he misbehaved. This ball also allowed Bibidi to safely transport Buu between planets.
Final Acts and Legacy Bibidi’s ultimate plan involved sending the Sealed Ball containing Buu to Earth, marking it as his next target for conquest. However, before Bibidi could unleash Buu on Earth, he was confronted and killed by Shin, the Supreme Kai.
Even in death, Bibidi’s influence persisted through his doppelganger, Babidi. This clone, created as an extension of himself to aid in his conquests, carried on Bibidi's ambitions, seeking to revive and exploit Majin Buu once more.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Name Origin:
- The names Bibidi, Babidi, and Buu in the "Dragon Ball" series are likely derived from the magical incantation “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” chanted by the Fairy Godmother in Disney’s 1950 film "Cinderella." This whimsical reference aligns with Akira Toriyama’s playful naming conventions throughout the series.
- Character Similarity:
- Bibidi and his doppelganger Babidi share not only their malevolent goals but also identical voices and personalities, underscoring the idea that Babidi is essentially an extension of Bibidi’s own character and will.
- Doppelganger Creation:
- According to Akira Toriyama's notes in the "Full Color Comics" series, Babidi is not Bibidi’s son in a conventional sense. Instead, Babidi is a doppelganger created by Bibidi. This ability to create multiple versions of himself allowed Bibidi to tackle tasks beyond the capacity of a single individual. However, the more doppelgangers Bibidi created, the weaker each became, similar to Tien's Multi-Form technique in "Dragon Ball." After Bibidi's death, Babidi inherited the full extent of his power, continuing his dark legacy.
- Symbolism of the "M":
- Toriyama revealed in an interview that the "M" symbol associated with Bibidi, Babidi, and Buu, which is seen on their attire and on the foreheads of their minions, stands for the Japanese word Ma (魔), meaning "demon." This symbol connects Bibidi and his works with the Demon Realm and dark magic. The same kanji for "demon" also appears in the term Majin (魔人), which translates to "demon person," referring to Buu's race and highlighting their inherent connection to malevolent forces.
