Deconstruction

From The Character Database

Deconstruction is the ability to break something down into smaller parts. The extent of this ability can vary widely from user to user. Some can only break down physical things like matter, while others can interact with metaphysical objects like the soul. It differs from traditional Matter Manipulation or similar abilities by only allowing the user to break things down, not manipulate them. Users of Deconstruction cannot manipulate things they've already broken down to the fullest extent of their ability.

Possible Uses:

  • Breaking Down Matter: Deconstruct physical objects into smaller parts or their basic components.
  • Metaphysical Deconstruction: Break down metaphysical objects such as souls, energy constructs, or other non-physical entities.
  • Selective Deconstruction: Target specific parts of an object or being to deconstruct, such as dismantling a weapon or breaking down a specific organ in a living being.

Limitations:

  • One-Way Ability: Users cannot manipulate or reconstruct what they have deconstructed; they can only break things down.
  • Varying Scope: The scope and extent of deconstruction abilities can vary, with some users limited to physical matter and others able to affect more abstract entities.
  • Resistance: Some objects or beings may have natural or magical resistance to deconstruction.
  • Side Effects: Deconstruction may have unintended consequences, such as collateral damage or instability in the surrounding environment.

Important Note:

  • Natural side effects from powers such as Energy Manipulation, Fire Manipulation, Vibration Manipulation, and other abilities that can produce enough energy output to destroy or dismantle objects do not mean that characters automatically qualify for Deconstruction. The ability must specifically and directly focus on deconstruction itself, rather than as a consequence of other powers.
