Gamma 1

Gamma 1 (ガンマ１号 Ganma Ichigō) is a Red Ribbon Army Android created by Dr. Hedo and one of the misguided antagonists in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Appearance

Gamma 1 resembles his fellow Android Gamma 2 and wears a similar costume, though befitting his number designation Gamma 1 has a single fin upon his head. Hedo's design for Gamma 1 was inspired by one of the many superheroes he idolized in his childhood. He also wears a red cape, carries a red Ray Gun, and the number one on his chest is colored red as well. Like Gamma 2, his belt buckle features Greek letter Gamma (Γ) (ガンマ ganma). He has a Red Ribbon Army logo on the left sleeve of his uniform.

Personality

In contrast to his twin, Gamma 1 possesses a loyal and calm personality. However, like his twin, he was a firm believer in justice and good, to such an extent that after witnessing Carmine try to shoot a then-toddler Pan, he immediately defected alongside his twin to the Dragon Team out of disgust.

Biography

Background

Gamma 1 was created by the genius scientist Dr. Hedo for Magenta the president of the Red Ribbon Army front company, Red Pharmaceuticals. He was directly based off a super hero character who Hedo was a fan of.

When Gamma 2 arrives back from his mission to gain intel on Piccolo, he informs the leading Red Ribbon members that he has killed Piccolo. However Gamma 1 tells him that he is mistaken and that Piccolo actually got away under a cloak of dust.

After Gohan arrives to rescue the "kidnapped" Pan from the Red Ribbon Army base, he makes a quick bee-line for his daughter only to be confronted by Gamma 1 who scolds his involvement with the so called evil Capsule Corporation. The two battle and Gohan resorts to using the Super Saiyan state but struggles against the mighty android until he sees his daughter in apparent distress. The anger causes Gohan to transform into his Potential Unleashed state and the two continue a much more evenly matched battle until Gamma 1 as well as his twin Gamma 2 witness Carmine nearly gun down Pan, causing them to realize their true enemy and defect to the Dragon Team's side. Unfortunately, shortly afterward, despite Dr. Hedo's protestations against it, Magenta releases the incomplete Cell Max at the cost of his life.

Gamma 1 and 2 engage in battle with the monster in order to save their creator Dr. Hedo and with a final sacrificial act from Gamma 2 and help from the Dragon Team, Cell Max is defeated. Following this, Bulma (having offered Dr. Hedo a job at Capsule Corporation after learning of his skin serum) also offers Gamma 1 a job at Capsule Corporation as a security officer.

Trivia

• Gamma 1's name comes from the Greek letter Gamma (Γ) (ガンマ ganma).
• In addition to being a Red Ribbon Android, Gamma 1 is fittingly associated with the color red as his uniform's number and cape are red as is his ray gun.
• Gamma 1's head design bears a resemblance to the Japanese superhero, Ultraman. He is also conceptually similar to Kamen Rider 1 from the Kamen Rider series, being nearly visually identical to his partner but being more serious in nature.
• Dr. Hedo seems to have created Gamma 1 based on a hero he once met.
