Appearance
Pietros has a slender yet toned build, distinguishing him from the muscular gladiators. He has dark skin, naturally curly dark brown hair, and wears a distinctive necklace. Though a house slave, he bears the brand of Batiatus, a mark typically reserved for gladiators.
Personality
Pietros is the lover of Barca, a formidable gladiator. Though their time together is not extensively shown, their relationship is both deeply emotional and physical, with Barca’s rough exterior softening in Pietros’ presence. The two share a cell and keep pigeons as pets, which Pietros enjoys caring for. While he serves the gladiators and the household at large, his past and how he came to the ludus remain unknown.
Gentle-hearted and compassionate, Pietros demonstrates kindness on several occasions, such as when he provides a disgraced Spartacus with food and water while he is forced to fight in the pits.
Biography
Blood and Sand
As a slave in the ludus, Pietros tends to the gladiators, fetching their armor, weapons, and water when needed. Under Barca’s protection, he is shielded from the harshness of the other gladiators and is one of the few slaves granted the privilege of sharing a cell with his lover.
When Spartacus first arrives, Pietros is the only one to show him kindness, secretly bringing him food and water in his time of need.
Pietros and Barca dream of freedom together, though they keep their hopes private. When Barca finally requests his release, Batiatus questions him about a rival’s son he was ordered to kill. Unbeknownst to Barca, Pietros had previously revealed to Batiatus that the boy was still alive, believing Barca had spared him to avoid upsetting Pietros. However, Ashur’s scheming convinces Batiatus that Barca allowed the boy to escape, leading him to have Barca executed for disloyalty.
Pietros is deceived into believing that Barca abandoned him, unable to afford both of their freedom. Devastated and alone, he becomes vulnerable to Gnaeus, who abuses and degrades him. Unable to endure the torment, Pietros takes his own life by hanging himself. His body is later discovered by a horrified Spartacus and Varro.
Enraged by Pietros' suffering, Spartacus exacts revenge by brutally killing the gloating Gnaeus. After Pietros' death, Naevia takes care of his pet birds.
