Wags the Dog is a Wiggly Friend from The Wiggles. He is a tall, brown dog with floppy ears, a big nose and a big "W" on his chest. He is Captain Feathersword's best friend.
He first appeared in various Wiggles concerts around 1994, before making his official debut in 1995 on the Big Red Car album in his eponymous song.
The way Wags works is that the performer inside can see through the nose, through a mesh surface commonly used on other costumes in the eye slots. Plus, on top of his head, there's a vent so the performer can have some breathing space.
Official Description[edit | edit source]
Wags the dog is a dancing dog and when he dances he likes to shake his hips. He loves eating and when you ask Whos got the bone, Wags has the bone dancing the shake shake, digging in his garden and having a good time are some of his favorite things to do. The wiggles understand him when he says woof
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Wags the Dog was the fourth Wiggly Friend to debut since 1994.
- He initially appeared as a minor character in "Big Red Car," but due to his popularity, he became one of the main characters starting with "Wake Up Jeff!"
- Wags does not appear in "Wiggle Time!" (1993) or "Yummy Yummy" (1994), as both videos were released before his official debut.
- Wags usually does not speak and only barks. His thoughts are occasionally heard in some episodes of Series 2, and he had a few speaking roles, primarily during the Sam era. Since 2013, he has returned to only barking and hasn't spoken out loud since.
- Wags' birthday is August 26th, which is also International Dog Day. This idea was later repeated with Shirley Shawn the Unicorn being born on International Unicorn Day.
- Xuxa's character "Txutxucão" is based on Wags the Dog.
