===Days of Future Past===
Eight years later, Wolverine, Storm, Professor X, and Magneto travel to China, where they plan to send Wolverine back to 1973 to prevent Mystique from killing Bolivar Trask, an event that initiated the Sentinel Program. Wolverine is chosen for this mission due to his healing abilities, which make him the only one capable of surviving the physical and mental strain of the time travel. Shadowcat sends Wolverine back to his younger self in 1973.

Wolverine awakens next to a woman and immediately faces an attack from three men, whom he kills. He then seeks out Professor X. At the X-Mansion, he has a tense encounter with Hank McCoy but eventually convinces Charles to help. They plan to break Magneto out of prison, where he is held for killing President John F. Kennedy.

The team, consisting of Charles, Wolverine, Quicksilver, and Hank, infiltrates the Pentagon and successfully frees Erik.

While pursuing Mystique, Wolverine encounters William Stryker, which triggers traumatic flashbacks. In 2023, he begins shaking violently and accidentally slashes Shadowcat with his claws. Back in 1973, Wolverine momentarily forgets his mission and who Charles Xavier is. When Charles is unable to use Cerebro, Wolverine suggests using his mind as a "bridge" to connect with his future self, allowing the two Charles Xaviers to communicate through him. This interaction reinvigorates the past Charles, enabling him to use Cerebro again.

At the Sentinel unveiling, the Sentinels attack the public. Magneto lifts an entire stadium and uses it to surround the White House. He places one Sentinel on lookout while sending the others to hunt Wolverine and Beast. Magneto stabs Wolverine with steel reinforcement and drowns him in a river. Despite his incapacitation, Wolverine's actions lead to the past Charles Xavier making crucial changes, which alter the future. In 2023, the Sentinels are about to fire upon the X-Men but vanish as Shadowcat breaks the connection, making Wolverine's changes to the timeline effective.

In the altered timeline, Wolverine wakes up at the Xavier Institute and is surprised to find himself back in the present day, surrounded by Storm, Shadowcat, Rogue, Iceman, Colossus, Beast, Professor X, and, to his shock, Cyclops and Jean Grey, who are both alive. Wolverine visits Professor X, revealing that he has just returned from time traveling and doesn't remember the details of the new timeline. Professor X, delighted, tells him they have a lot to catch up on.
