Max Dillon lived a life largely unnoticed by others, never receiving the recognition or acknowledgment he desperately craved. He worked as an electrical engineer at Oscorp Industries, where his existence was largely lonely and unfulfilling. Max's life at Oscorp was marked by bullying, particularly from his co-worker Alistair Smythe. He occasionally worked with Dr. Curt Connors, a brilliant scientist at Oscorp, and later learned about how Connors transformed into the Lizard and attempted to turn everyone in New York City into lizards before being defeated by Spider-Man.

Max's frustrations deepened when Oscorp accepted designs for their power grid, including many of his own contributions. However, despite using his designs, Oscorp rejected his proposals and failed to credit him, which added to Max's growing annoyance and sense of being overlooked.
