Appearance[edit | edit source]

Super Shenron is an awe-inspiring, colossal dragon with a sleek, pure yellow body that radiates a golden hue. He possesses piercing crimson eyes and a set of enormous bat-like wings, distinguishing him from the feathery-winged Eternal Dragons seen elsewhere in the franchise. Unlike most dragons, Super Shenron lacks legs and is adorned with spikes along his tail.

His size is incomprehensibly vast, dwarfing entire galaxies across Universes 6 and 7. This immense scale makes him the largest Eternal Dragon in the Dragon Ball series and the biggest creature overall. Despite his usual enormous size, Super Shenron has the ability to reduce his scale significantly. This was demonstrated at the end of the Tournament of Power when he appeared only slightly larger than the arena.

When making a wish, it's crucial to address the core or nucleus of Super Shenron's presence, as Beerus notes. This is the essential form to which wishes must be delivered, rather than his immense physical form.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Background:[edit | edit source]

Super Shenron is known as the Dragon of the Gods (神の龍 Kami no ryū), a title befitting his divine origin. He was created by the Dragon God, Zalama, who forged the Super Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs are scattered across Universes 6 and 7 and are significantly larger than the standard Dragon Balls.

To summon Super Shenron, one must recite the specific incantation, "Come forth, Dragon of the Gods, and grant my wish pretty peas!" in the Divine Language. The Funimation dub alters this phrase to, "Divine Dragon, grant my wish with peas and carrots!" Once summoned, the wish must also be articulated in the Divine Language for Super Shenron to understand and fulfill it. This unique summoning process highlights his status and the extraordinary power he holds.

Universe 6 Saga[edit | edit source]

In the Universe 6 Saga of Dragon Ball Super, Super Shenron is summoned by Whis using the language of the gods. Upon being called forth, Super Shenron awakens from his slumber and shatters the barrier that contains him. As he emerges, his colossal form stretches across space, becoming larger than multiple galaxies combined.

Once fully awakened, Super Shenron transports Whis, Beerus, and the others within the cube they are traveling in, deep into his body to reach his core, which is the point from where they can communicate their wish. Speaking exclusively in the Divine Language, Super Shenron commands them to state their wish.

At Beerus's instruction, Whis wishes for the restoration of Earth in Universe 6, along with its human inhabitants. This generous wish contrasts sharply with what Beerus later tells Bulma; when she inquires about the wish, he nonchalantly claims he wished for a more comfortable bed, skillfully diverting attention away from the true nature of his relationship with his brother, Champa.

"Future" Trunks Saga[edit | edit source]

In the Dragon Ball Super "Future" Trunks Saga, Super Shenron plays a pivotal role in the machinations of Zamasu. In the original, unaltered timeline, Zamasu uses the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Goku, setting the stage for his subsequent rampage as Goku Black. A bonus chapter of the manga adds a twist to this story: Zamasu initially mistakes Monaka for the strongest warrior and swaps bodies with him instead. Upon realizing his error, he eventually corrects his wish and switches bodies with Goku.

In the altered future timeline, Goku Black, now in Goku's body, teams up with his counterpart, Future Zamasu. Together, they summon Future Super Shenron to fulfill Future Zamasu's wish for immortality. This grants Future Zamasu eternal life, bolstering their plan to eradicate all mortals.

Their plans continue as they use the Super Dragon Balls once more. After waiting another year, they summon Super Shenron again to wish for the Super Dragon Balls to destroy themselves. This wish results in the self-destruction of the Super Dragon Balls, effectively killing Super Shenron in the process, and preventing anyone from reversing their wishes.

In a later anime-exclusive event, during the "Forest of Terror" episode, Super Shenron's nucleus appears as an illusion created by Fortuneteller Baba. This illusion captures Goku and his Flying Nimbus, preventing Goku from attacking directly without harming Nimbus. Ultimately, Krillin intervenes, attacking the dragon and freeing Goku. Goku and Krillin then combine their efforts, destroying the illusion with a powerful Kamehameha, thus ending the threat.

Second Alternate Timeline[edit | edit source]

In an alternate future timeline, created through intervention by Whis and others, the events leading up to Future Beerus's death are altered. In the anime, Whis warns Future Beerus to avoid his demise. In the manga, Future Mai and Future Trunks travel back in time to prevent Future Dabura from killing Future Shin, which would have led to Future Beerus's death. This intervention is sanctioned by Present Beerus. In this altered timeline, Future Super Shenron presumably still exists, remaining a powerful entity capable of granting wishes.

Universe Survival Saga[edit | edit source]

In the Dragon Ball Super Universe Survival Saga, the Super Dragon Balls become the coveted prize for the winner of the Tournament of Power. It is declared that the victorious team will have their wish granted by Super Shenron, capable of fulfilling any desire they might have.

As the tournament unfolds, warriors from multiple universes battle for survival, each vying for the ultimate wish. In a climactic conclusion, Android 17 emerges as the last fighter standing.

With the tournament over, the Grand Priest summons Super Shenron using the Super Dragon Balls. As the colossal dragon awakens, Android 17 is granted the opportunity to make a wish. Displaying his selflessness, 17 wishes for the restoration of all the universes that were erased during the tournament. Super Shenron, with his immense power, fulfills this noble wish, bringing back every erased universe and their inhabitants.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes:[edit | edit source]

Universe Creation Saga[edit | edit source]

In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes Universe Creation Saga, Fu hatches a plan to create a new universe using the energy from the Universe Tree. However, this scheme threatens the existing universes, as the tree begins draining energy from their planets and inhabitants, pushing them towards destruction.

To counter this, Beerus and Champa gather the Super Dragon Balls and summon Super Shenron near Earth. With the colossal dragon's power, they wish for the destruction of the Universe Tree. Super Shenron successfully fulfills their request, eradicating the tree and thereby saving the current universes from annihilation.
