Void Manipulation, also known as Nothingness Manipulation, is the ability to control and manipulate a void, which is defined as nothingness or non-existence.
Key Distinctions
- Not Empty Space or Black Holes: Empty space and black holes do not qualify as a void since they possess energy and exist in the conventional sense. Manipulating these would fall under Spatial Manipulation or Black Hole Creation, respectively.
- Not Non-Physical Interaction: The ability to interact with nonexistent beings or objects as if they were physical is considered Non-Physical Interaction and does not equate to manipulating nothingness in other contexts.
Possible Uses
- Manipulation of Nothingness: The core function of this ability, allowing the user to control a "nonexistent substance." This might also grant resistance to existence erasure, as interacting with a Void could cause one to be converted into a Void, though this is not guaranteed.
- Conversion to Nonexistence: The user can potentially turn targets into nothingness. This can range from erasing only the target’s matter to also nullifying its energy, mind, soul, space, time, and/or concepts. Most users do not possess the full range of this ability. It’s important to note that resistance against this ability in totality should not be assumed unless a character has explicitly shown resistance to every imaginable form of existence erasure.
- Conversion to Existence: The inverse of Existence Erasure, allowing the user to bring something from nonexistence into existence. This could include reversing the effects of existence erasure or conjuring physical objects from nothingness. However, this ability alone does not justify Void Manipulation and may be limited to specific aspects, such as only creating physical objects rather than minds, souls, or concepts.
Limitations
- Verse-Dependent Scope: The effectiveness and scope of Void Manipulation can vary greatly depending on the fictional universe in question. Consequently, some uses of this ability can be far more potent than others.
