Rose (formerly Rose Harper) is one of the main characters and the main antagonist of Two and a Half Men. A former one-night stand of Charlie, who lives a few houses away, she soon becomes his obsessive stalker. Over the years, she becomes friends with the Harper brothers, and after eight years, she finally elopes with Charlie to Paris, where they get engaged. However, he eventually "dies", Rose goes after her new conquest: Walden Schmidt.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Rose is a beautiful woman of medium height with shoulder-length dark brown hair, brown eyes and very pale skin. She often wears business-casual skirt suits and a silver butterfly necklace with a blue jewel.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Rose is a highly intelligent, deceitful, manipulative and rather obsessive woman. Her clothing style is quite quirky and she wears very bright colours. At the beginning of the series, she was just one of Charlie's one-night stands, but she quickly developed into his stalker. She is obsessive and loves and loathes Charlie at the same time. She can be very vindictive. Berta, Charlie, Jake and Alan have labelled her "crazy" She has single-handedly created an entire website about her hatred for Charlie, taped his testicles to his left thigh, glued a homemade car to Alan's scrotum, dressed up as a bride to scare Charlie's fiancée Mia, and pretended to be pregnant to scare away Walden Schmidt's girlfriend. Rose's stalking has apparently gotten so bad that Charlie has placed a restraining order on her, which she constantly violates. She even went so far as to commit attempted murder when she tried to push her new fiancé Charlie under a train and then held him in a hole that resembled Buffalo Bill for four years.
In a surprising turn of events, Rose possesses the education required to become a certified therapist, and she carried out counseling sessions with Alan and Charlie. She shares a close bond with Evelyn and has also looked after Jake when he was a child.
Rose stands out from the other girls in Charlie's circle because she's far from being dumb. In fact, she's quite cunning, managing to pull off a whole sham wedding and relocate to his beachfront property in Malibu, hoping to win Charlie's heart back. She's also remarkably patient, arranging for a one-night stand to become sick so she could take care of him. She even came up with a fake boyfriend to get a date out of him. Following Charlie's supposed death, Rose developed feelings for Walden Schmidt and was welcomed into his home. However, when Walden got back together with his ex-girlfriend, Rose was furious and ended their relationship. During Christmas, Rose gifted Walden and Alan a cuckoo clock, without them knowing it secretly recorded their conversations.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Rose is highly educated, completing her undergraduate studies in just two years at Princeton University and going on to earn a Masters in Behavioral Psychology from Stanford University. She is classified as a mentally-ill individual who pursued psychology as a means of self-treatment. Coming from a wealthy background with family ties to the banking and oil industries, Rose has never had to work or worry about financial matters.
Rose is introduced in the "Pilot" episode as someone deeply infatuated with Charlie. She forms a close bond with Charlie, frequently spending time with Jake while still harboring romantic feelings for him. She often offers him advice on relationships, subtly hinting at her ongoing affection for him. In "I Always Wanted A Shaved Monkey," Rose leverages her educational background to assist Charlie and Alan in resolving a dispute between them. It is initially believed in late season 4 that Rose has relocated to England, but this is later exposed as a scheme. Rose returns in "City of Great Racks" while pursuing a relationship with Judge Linda Harris. Throughout their interactions, Charlie becomes increasingly suspicious of Rose's true identity, attributing her disguises to his love for her. Despite his doubts, Charlie travels to London to express his feelings, only to abandon the idea after Rose expresses a desire for a more settled life together.
In "A Little Clammy and None Too Fresh", when Charlie falls sick, she claims she was expelled from England because of her misdeeds. She supposedly looks after Charlie for two weeks, but in reality, she's administering a drug that renders him unconscious, which Charlie eventually figures out. Charlie attempts to convince Alan of this, but Alan remains skeptical. Realizing her scheme is falling apart, Rose decides to leave. It's later revealed that Rose was the one who bribed Lulu to infect Charlie. In Season 6, Rose begins to stalk Charlie's fiancée Chelsea Melini, pretending to accidentally bump into her multiple times and claiming she's investigating Chelsea's background for Charlie's benefit. Chelsea sets up a blind date between Charlie and Alan, leaving the Harpers puzzled. Despite Charlie's objections, Rose and Alan start a relationship, with Rose continuing her stalking of Charlie. She even attaches a glue to Alan's penis after he asks her to stop, leaving him stuck to a model car, yet she continues her pursuit. In "Gumby with a Pokey", Rose appears again, this time while Charlie is under the influence of marijuana. Despite her stalking, Charlie remains oblivious to her true identity, having seen illusions of many of his ex-girlfriends. He confesses his feelings for Rose, promising to call her once he's recovered, only to become confused when Berta claims she can see her and leaves. Returning in Season 8, Rose announces her engagement to a fake name, claiming she's marrying "Manfred Quinn, a renowned model and key figure in the men's fashion world". This revelation leads Charlie to confess his love for Rose, even suggesting they elope. However, Rose declines. Rose and Charlie engage in an affair, which includes secret meetings and a romantic trip to Paris. In the same season, Rose quickly figures out that Alan is involved in a fraudulent scheme, earning him a fortune from Charlie, Herb, Judith, Evelyn, and Berta. Alan visits Rose's house to demand money, threatening to expose her affair with Charlie unless she complies. However, upon discovering the truth about "Manfred Quinn", Rose and Alan agree to a deal. Rose provides Alan with the funds he needs to reimburse his family for the money he stole, all without them ever knowing about his deceitful actions, and Alan keeps Rose's secret about "Manfred" from Charlie.
Charlie's supposed death Charlie and Rose travel to Paris, where Charlie proposes to her. Shortly after, Rose claims she witnessed Charlie cheating on her in the shower with another woman. The following day, Charlie is said to have "slipped" and was hit by a train, "killing him". This, however, is a lie. In reality, she discovered Charlie in bed with a prostitute, a mime, and a goat. She fled from him, and upon catching up at a train station, she attempted to murder him by pushing him in front of a train, but instead, she pushed the goat she was sleeping with. The goat's ashes were then claimed as Charlie's while he remained imprisoned in her home. During Charlie's funeral, it was evident that Alan, Evelyn, and Berta believed Rose was responsible for his death. This belief was further reinforced by Berta's remark, "never cross a crazy woman." Throughout the ninth season, Rose was absent and seldom mentioned, except in the premiere and during the season. It had not been explicitly stated whether she still resided next to the beach house, despite it being presumed that Alan would mention it. This could be attributed to Rose's possible scheming following the loss of her sole "hobby." In the episode "What A Lovely Landing Strip," Rose made her much-anticipated return. She quietly approached Bridget (who had recently reconciled with Walden and was now observing him from a window) and decided to take her on as a student in her stalking techniques, recognizing Bridget's instability after being rejected by her husband for another woman. By the episode's conclusion, it was clear that the ongoing love/hate dynamic within the beach house was far from over. In "That's Not What They Call It In Amsterdam," Rose formally met Walden and they quickly formed a connection. It was apparent that she continued to stalk the Harper family, and as a result of unfortunate circumstances, Walden found himself being stalked as well. She disclosed "everything" concerning Charlie's past, excluding his murder. Upon hearing this from Walden, Alan became extremely distressed, indicating that the friendship between Alan and Rose had reached its end. In the subsequent episode, "Ferrets, Attack!", Walden invited Rose to move in, which was quite a surprise. She expressed her willingness to consider it. Walden received an invitation for coffee from Zoey, who was interested in rekindling their relationship. Upon returning home, Walden shared this news with Alan, who responded with disbelief, saying "Isn't that crazy?" When Alan responded with "no," he led Walden into the living room, where Rose and her belongings from her previous home were displayed, remarking, "That's crazy." It became evident to Walden that he needed to end his relationship with Rose. Later that evening, Walden and Rose were lying on the deck, and he expressed his intention to break up with her. When Rose left the deck, she called her pet ferrets to attack Walden. Subsequently, Rose appeared at Zoey's door, claiming to be pregnant with Walden's child, causing Zoey to panic and terminate her relationship with Walden. In the episode "Mr. Walden, He Die. I Clean Room.", Rose rescues Walden, who is being pursued by Larry's assassin. She takes Walden to a hotel, claiming it's a safe place for him. The two share a passionate moment, culminating in a kiss. However, when Larry cancels the assassination, it's discovered that Rose orchestrated the whole thing to get closer to Walden. In "Of Course He's Dead," it's uncovered that Charlie is still alive and has been held captive in Rose's basement in Sherman Oaks after she discovered him with another woman, a mime, and a goat during their wedding. For the last four years, Rose has kept Charlie locked up, driving him mad and manipulating him into despising Walden, Evelyn, and Alan. After Charlie manages to break free by creating a rope from his shirts, Rose goes to alert the others. After revealing the truth about Charlie's captivity to them, Rose disappears, fearing that Charlie would seek her out again. Even after Charlie is thought to be captured, Rose remains missing, suggesting she might have decided to leave the Harper family behind her forever.
