Uria, Lord of Searing Flames (神炎皇ウリア) is one of the three Sacred Beast cards sought after by Kagemaru in order to restore his youth in Yu-Gi-Oh GX
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The design of the Sacred Beasts, including Uria, was overseen by Kenichi Hara. These creatures are inspired by the Egyptian God Cards, with Uria serving as a counterpart to "Slifer the Sky Dragon." However, the Sacred Beasts feature distinct design elements that differentiate them from the God Cards, such as translucent wings, more pronounced claws, and skeletal features.
Uria shares certain similarities with Slifer, notably having two mouths. In Uria's case, this appears as an additional set of teeth surrounding its main mouth. Its larger teeth are positioned near the tip of its jaw rather than toward the back. Additionally, Uria's wings are integrated into its arms, unlike Slifer’s separate wings, and its shoulders are adorned with spikes.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, embodies the ferocity and untamed power of its fiery domain. As a Sacred Beast, it exudes an aura of dominance and destruction, reflecting its ability to annihilate opposing forces with overwhelming strength. Its personality is often perceived as relentless and unforgiving, befitting its destructive capabilities.
Unlike the Egyptian God Cards, the Sacred Beasts, including Uria, are portrayed as darker, more malevolent entities. While Uria doesn’t exhibit a "personality" in the traditional sense, its actions and presence suggest a creature of calculated aggression, responding to its summoner's will with unparalleled loyalty. In the series, it serves as a powerful weapon, embodying chaos and the immense potential for destruction when unleashed.
When in the hands of a summoner like Kagemaru or Yubel, Uria symbolizes their ambition and desire for domination, reflecting the summoner’s darker intentions and their willingness to wield such immense power without hesitation. Despite its monstrous nature, Uria remains bound to the commands of its master, making it a force of nature channeled by human ambition.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the Sacred Beasts are legendary entities whose cards were sealed by Kagemaru beneath Duel Academy, behind the Spirit Gates. These gates can only be opened with seven Spirit Keys. Kagemaru initially failed to unlock their power, but their release was foretold to bring chaos and darkness upon the world.
The Shadow Riders sought to obtain the Spirit Keys to revive the Sacred Beasts. However, the gates required a strong dueling presence to activate, rendering attempts like Don Zaloog’s theft of the keys ineffective. To protect the keys, seven elite duelists from Duel Academy were chosen: Jaden Yuki, Zane Truesdale, Chazz Princeton, Alexis Rhodes, Bastion Misawa, Lyman Banner (secretly a Shadow Rider), and Vellian Crowler. Despite the Shadow Riders’ efforts, Kagemaru ultimately awakened the Sacred Beasts using the dueling energy generated by these battles.
Kagemaru challenged Jaden Yuki to a duel, seeking to harness Jaden’s unique ability to commune with Duel Spirits. Uria was the first Sacred Beast he summoned, posing a significant threat with its ability to revive itself and gain power. In exchange for their release, the Sacred Beasts gradually restored Kagemaru's youth by draining energy from Duel Monster spirits. However, Jaden’s determination led to Kagemaru's defeat, and the Sacred Beasts were sealed once more.
In the third season, after Duel Academy was transported to an alternate dimension, a Yubel-possessed Marcel Bonaparte retrieved the Sacred Beasts and built a deck around them. This deck enhanced their summoning speed and supported the summoning of their fusion form, "Chaos Phantasm Armityle." Later, Jesse Anderson, while possessed by Yubel, also used the Sacred Beasts to dominate in duels. Uria played a pivotal role in turning the tide of a match by destroying Adrian’s "Burden of the Mighty."
Although Yubel didn’t use the Sacred Beasts during her final duel with Jaden, "Raviel" was shown in her deck. After Yubel merged with Jaden, the fate of the Sacred Beasts remains unclear, though it is likely Jaden returned them to their resting place.
