Akira/Tori-Bot, the Ultimate Ruler of the Dragon World, is a character inspired by the late author Akira Toriyama, representing himself in comedic roles within the Dragon Ball series. Modeled after Toriyama's avatar "Robotoriyama," He appears through three forms: Tori a blue bird, Robo-Toriyama a robot version and an animated version of his human self. Akira makes significant appearances in Dr. Slump and minor appearances in Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super.

His first appearance was as Tori on the cover of the one-shot Today's Highlight Island, where he was depicted hanging from the piece of straw in Kanta's mouth.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Dr. Slump[edit | edit source]

In the Dr. Slump manga, Tori-Bot makes frequent appearances as a resident of Penguin Village. He lives in a small house on a hill where he spends his time drawing manga chapters, making models, and receiving rejection notices from his editor. Tori-Bot appears in various forms, including a robot, a human, and a bird, but he seems to prefer his robotic form. Although he usually appears as a cameo, there are a few stories where he plays a major role.

He often tries to trick the residents of Penguin Village into participating in contests for easy prize money to boost his manga sales, as seen in "Penguin Gran Prix" and "Who's the Strongest in the World?". However, he frequently tries to avoid paying them, leading to him getting pummeled.

In chapter 71, "The Time Stoppers," it's revealed that Tori-Bot is good friends with Senbei Norimaki. He once asked Senbei to build a time-stopping machine to give him more time for drawing. The machine backfired, freezing everything. Tori-Bot managed to reverse it the next day but avoided providing an explanation. Senbei also briefly rebuilt Tori-Bot's robotic body after Gatchan ate it during the same chapter.

Later, in "N'cha, Penguin Village Ten Years from Now!," Tori-Bot used Turbo's time machine to explore the future of Penguin Village. He interviewed future residents and was pleased with their outcomes until he encountered his future self, who was a homeless bum begging for scraps. Terrified by this glimpse of his future, Tori-Bot returned to the present and vowed to put more effort into his work.

Tori-Bot makes a minor appearance in the movie Dr. Slump and Arale-chan: N-cha! Love Comes From Penguin Village, where he is seen in a crowd alongside characters such as Launch, Oolong, Mai, Shu, Emperor Pilaf, King Nikochan and his servant Pink, and Cobalt Blue.

In Hetappi Manga Kenkyūjo, Tori-Bot explains to his young assistant Hetappi, as well as the readers, the process of creating a manga.

Dragon Ball[edit | edit source]

Tori-Bot makes a few appearances in the early chapters of the Dragon Ball manga (chapters 1, 3, and 42). In episode/chapter three, "The Nimbus Cloud of Roshi" and "Sea Monkeys," he can be spotted clinging to a tree as Bulma and Goku approach the beach. In the Japanese version, he mumbles "Penguin Village...this is not," while in the manga he says "Is this Penguin Village?” In the English dubs, his role varies: the Harmony Gold dub changes his line to "What’s that noise I hear?” referring to Bulma’s motorbike; the BLT dub makes him sound like a monkey, likely due to his position in the tree; and the Funimation dub gives him some dull warbling, reflecting the American audience's unfamiliarity with Dr. Slump.

In "Look Out for Launch," Tori-Bot is shown on a poster in the saloon as one of the criminals already captured, with the lowest bounty, adding a touch of comic relief. He also appears hanging from a tree in the Capsule Corporation garden during the filler episode "Master Thief, Hasky."

Dragon Ball Z[edit | edit source]

Tori-Bot is seen among the crowd of fighters watching Goku battle Pikkon, with his head colored yellow instead of his usual blue/black. He also appears in episodes 210, "The World Tournament," and 215, "Forfeit of Piccolo."

In manga chapter 480, "The Fusion Succeeds...?!", Tori-Bot appears on The Lookout, where he apologizes to his editor for having the same image of Trunks and Goten fusing used twice in the chapter, asking not to be paid for it.

In Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming, Tori-Bot is seen briefly at the bottom of the screen. He also appears as an icon on Gohan's computer in Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends! alongside Neko Majin Mix.

Dragon Ball Super[edit | edit source]

Tori-Bot's face appears on the Zeni banknotes that Mr. Satan gives to Goku.

Dragon Ball GT[edit | edit source]

Tori-Bot is depicted in yellow and green on a shaving kit purchased by Vegeta.

Video Games[edit | edit source]

Tori-Bot appears as "Toripo" in Blue Dragon, an RPG created by Akira Toriyama.

A version of Tori-Bot also makes random appearances in Dragon Ball Online, where he appears on-screen with a speech bubble above his head.

In Dragon Ball Heroes, Tori-Bot can be selected as a helping robot. When used, he allows all of the team's super attacks to damage the opponent without consuming Hero Energy (special meter) for 4 rounds. He also appears in Defense and Attack Forms within the game.

Powers and Stats[edit | edit source]

Tier: Unknown, at least 1-C, likely far higher

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Ki Manipulation (Both for offensive and defensive purposes), Reality Warping (Has the ability to alter and shape entire worlds at will. Should have much superior reality warping to Janemba), Creation and Destruction (Created multiple franchises and can destroy them if he so wishes), Existence Erasure (Has the ability to erase characters from reality. Likely has the ability to use "Hakai". An ability that erases one's existence and very essence), Life & Death Manipulation (It's explained that Tori-Bot was the cause of why Frieza was ressurected and was the cause of Vegeta's death. In addition can take and grant life within Dragon Ball), 4th Wall Awareness and Breaking (Can speak to the editor who doesn't exist in the DB franchise), Toon Force (Is shown to be a gag character and easily has superior Toon Force to Arale), Possibly Portal Creation (Any character equal to or stronger than Buu Saga top tiers can perform the Vice Shout with sheer power), Immortality (Type 4), Soul Manipulation (Can interact with and destroy Souls), ETC.

Attack Potency: Unknown, at least Low Complex Multiverse level (Due to the varying nature of Tori-Bot's showings, it is hard to place a tiering on him and also even harder on the basis Tori-Bot is not an entirely serious character. Nonetheless, Tori-Bot should be vastly superior to Doctor Slump's "God", who is responsible for the creation of The Universe, Heaven & Hell. Which all act as separate realms of existence. In addition to this, it should be far superior to Zeno-Sama, who can destroy the timeline and the giant Space-Time that encompasses The 12 Universes. Tori-Bot’s influence and superiority has shown to extend to even Heroes, with Tori-Bit being stronger than Heroes Top Tiers such as Demigra)

Speed: Unknown, likely Massively FTL+ (While never actually showcasing any form of speed, he should be miles faster than anyone from Dragon Ball, such as The Angels, who can travel at least At least 118.25 sextillion c, likely At least 1.1825 Nonilion c. It is superior to "God" in speed, who can traverse The Universe.)

Lifting Strength: Class T' (Scaling off Beerus and comparable beings)

Striking Strength: Unknown, at least Low Complex Multiverse level (Is treated as the supreme being of Dragon Ball and Doctor Slump, thus should be physically superior to "God", who can create three separate realms. Is superior to Zenos, who can affect the entire timeline in addition to the 12 Universes. Of which is encompassed by a giant Space-Time.)

Durability: Unknown, at least Low Complex Multiverse level (Is implied to be capable of surviving the destruction of both Dragon Ball and Doctor Slump. Should have the same degree of superiority to Zeno-Sama & God, to the same degree Zeno has to The Gods of Destruction & Angels)

Stamina: Unknown

Range: Low Complex Multiverse level (Can affect the cosmologies of both Dragon Ball & Doctor Slump. Lesser characters such as Zeno-Sama can affect the 12 universes.)

Intelligence: Unknown, likely Very High (Holds knowledge over everything that exists in Dragon Ball and Doctor Slump)

Weaknesses: It is very clumsy and is prone to forget things, getting his ideas rejected by the editors.

Note:

  • It is reasonable to assume Tori-Bot is far superior to any being that derives from Dragon Ball and Doctor Slump, given that Tori-Bot is the creator of everything and is meant to represent Akira himself but in a fictional medium.
