Appearance[edit | edit source]

Salt is a short, red humanoid Serpent with distinct features, including long pointed ears, whiskers, two small fangs protruding from his upper jaw, and peduncle-like appendages extending from both sides of his jawbone. He wears a brown Mongolian-style fur hat resembling the cap of a condiment bottle. (Vinegar also wears a similar hat, albeit smaller, beige, and adorned with small white horns.) Salt’s outfit includes a yellow fur collar with a long "tail," a black battle jacket with light green shoulder guards and abdominal sections resembling Frieza Force armor, and a matching green shirt underneath. His ensemble is completed with white gloves, light blue pants, and white-and-brown boots.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Salt is brash, aggressive, and cocky, often acting impulsively and attacking without waiting for orders. Despite his overconfidence, he becomes hesitant when witnessing Gohan's true power, even suggesting that Mustard fight Gohan alone and later agreeing to team up with him. Like the other Spice Boys, Salt is cruel and sadistic, taking delight in taunting his enemies and employing underhanded tactics. He relishes in beating Gohan and mocks the injured Krillin alongside Mustard after Krillin shields Gohan from his Surprise Blast.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Dragon Ball Z: Garlic Jr. Saga[edit | edit source]

Salt is one of the Demons from the Makyo Star and a loyal member of Garlic Jr.'s team. He aids in defeating Kami at the Lookout and later accompanies the Spice Boys to Kame House on Garlic Jr.'s orders to capture Gohan. During the ensuing conflict, Salt participates in a group battle against Piccolo.

Later, Salt and Mustard engage Gohan and Krillin atop the Lookout. During the fight, Salt nearly defeats Gohan by launching multiple Surprise Blasts. However, Krillin intervenes, shielding Gohan and taking the brunt of the attack. Fueled by rage at seeing his friend injured, Gohan unleashes his latent power and defeats Salt with a powerful Masenko.

Weaknesses: The destruction of the Makyo Star will render him powerless.[14]

Attacks and Techniques[edit | edit source]

  • Flight – Salt possesses the ability to fly using ki energy, a common skill among powerful warriors.
  • Ki Blast – A basic energy wave attack that Salt can fire from his hands.
  • Telekinesis – A technique that allows him to manipulate objects and opponents with his mind.
  • Flying Kick – A rapid succession of kicks executed while rushing toward an opponent. Though the individual strikes deal minimal damage, they can stun the opponent briefly, creating an opening for follow-up attacks.
  • Surprise Blast – Salt pulls his hand back and fires a red energy blast with all fingers outstretched, catching his opponent off guard.
  • Combined Energy Ball – A powerful fusion of two energy spheres. Known as Salt Break (ソルトブレイク) in Dragon Ball Heroes.
  • Stomach Break – A heavy attack targeting the opponent's abdomen, used notably against Gohan. This move is named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
  • Energy Web – Salt generates a spider web-like ki shot to trap his opponent, immobilizing them. The web tightens the more the victim struggles, making escape increasingly difficult.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Salt is the first villain Gohan ever destroyed, aside from Sui.
  • Along with Vinegar, Salt is one of the only Spice Boys whose voice remained unchanged in the remastered Funimation dub.
  • In the Funimation dub, Salt’s voice is a strong impression of actor and comedian Bobcat Goldthwait.
