Appearance[edit | edit source]

Cymbal is a large, humanoid, dragon-like Namekian, with his mutation reflecting his unique role: locating Dragon Balls. King Piccolo notes that it is fitting for such an offspring to resemble a dragon.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Cymbal is fiercely loyal to his father and fully committed to serving him. He is very rude to humans; when he first encounters Goku and Yajirobe, he demands to know if they have any information about the Dragon Ball he is seeking and threatens to kill them if they don't comply. Cymbal will stop at nothing to obtain the Dragon Balls, even if it means taking a life. Unlike his brother Tambourine, Cymbal is not unnecessarily cruel or sadistic; he focuses solely on finding the Dragon Balls and only attempts to kill Yajirobe when he refuses to give up his Dragon Ball.

King Piccolo Saga[edit | edit source]

After Tambourine returns to Pilaf's Flying Base with a list of martial artists who participated in the World Martial Arts Tournaments, King Piccolo orders him to eliminate them all and creates Cymbal to locate the Dragon Balls.

Cymbal’s first mission, after hatching, is to collect the remaining Dragon Balls so King Piccolo can wish for restored youth and power. After receiving the location of the nearest Dragon Ball from Emperor Pilaf, Cymbal sets out to retrieve it.

He finds Goku and Yajirobe at Yajirobe's Prairie and demands that they hand over the Dragon Ball. When Yajirobe refuses, Cymbal threatens to kill him. Goku and Yajirobe play Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine who will fight Cymbal, and Yajirobe wins. Cymbal attacks with punches and Electric Shock Waves, but they have no effect on Yajirobe. The swordsman then slices Cymbal in half with his katana, killing him. Yajirobe subsequently roasts and eats Cymbal.
