Kogu, also known as Gokua (ゴクア Gokua) in the Japanese version, is Hera Clansman and one of Bojack's four Galaxy Soldiers in Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound.

Appearance:[edit | edit source]

Kogu, also known as Gokua in the Japanese version, is a Hera Clansman and a member of Bojack's Galaxy Soldiers. Like others of his race, he has teal-colored skin and orange hair. His outfit is similar to Dabura's but with different colors: a black top, white pants, and a red sash that goes over his shoulder. When transformed, Kogu's complexion becomes green, and he loses his black top while retaining the red sash. Kogu also wields a sword, which he uses during his fights.

Personality:[edit | edit source]

Kogu is depicted as an arrogant and ruthless warrior, displaying confidence in his abilities and a lack of regard for rules, as evidenced by his bringing a sword into the Intergalactic World Tournament despite restrictions. His arrogance, however, proves to be his downfall, as he chooses to taunt Future Trunks instead of finishing him off, ultimately costing him his life. In Dragon Ball Legends, Kogu seeks to avenge his leader Bojack by eliminating Cabba, Future Trunks, and Gohan, whom he mocks for their perceived weaknesses.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Bojack Unbound:[edit | edit source]

Kogu first appears during the Intergalactic Martial Arts Tournament, posing as one of Mr. Satan's champions after he and the Galaxy Soldiers murder the actual participants. He ambushes Future Trunks with a Full Power Energy Ball fired from a tree and continues attacking with his sword, showing a disregard for the tournament's rules. Despite catching Future Trunks off guard and delivering powerful blows, Kogu underestimates his opponent. When Future Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan Second Grade, he breaks Kogu's sword and kills him with a fist through his stomach. However, Kogu's assault tires Future Trunks out, allowing Bojack to ambush and knock him out easily.

Fusion Reborn:[edit | edit source]

Kogu makes a brief cameo in Fusion Reborn when the residents of Hell escape to Earth, along with many other antagonists from the Dragon Ball series.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes (Supreme Kai of Time Saga):[edit | edit source]

Kogu's Bojack Unbound incarnation appears as one of the competitors in the Super Space-Time Tournament, along with his comrades. When his team fails to advance to the second round, both Kogu and his space-time are erased.

Dragon Ball Legends[edit | edit source]

In Dragon Ball Legends, Kogu becomes aware of the battle between Cabba, Future Trunks, Gohan, and Bojack, and seeks revenge for his leader's defeat. He ridicules Cabba for his perceived weakness and for being frequently saved by others, such as Android 16 and Shallot.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Name Origin: Kogu's Japanese name, "Gokua," is derived from the Japanese word "gokuakuhidou," meaning "heinous and inhuman." His fellow henchman, Bido, shares part of this word in his name. In the English-dubbed version, his name was changed to "Kogu," possibly to avoid confusion with the main character, Goku. However, in the English localization of Dragon Ball Legends, he is still called "Gokua."
  • Accent: In the FUNimation dub, Kogu has a pseudo-Caribbean accent similar to Bojack, Bido, and Bujin, though his is more exaggerated. Interestingly, Zangya is the only member of the group without a discernible accent in this version.
  • Swordsman Skills: Kogu is an expert swordsman, much like Future Trunks, with whom he battles during the tournament in Bojack Unbound. However, Trunks did not have his sword with him due to tournament rules.
  • Transformation: Kogu's transformation resembles that of Bojack, which is logical given they are of the same race. His hair also changes in a way that resembles a Super Saiyan's transformation.
  • Left-Handed: Kogu is noted to be left-handed, a rare trait among Dragon Ball characters.
  • Resemblance to Other Characters: Kogu has a strong resemblance to Crono, the main character of Chrono Trigger, a video game designed by Akira Toriyama, who is also the creator of Dragon Ball.
  • Name Anagram: "Kogu" is an anagram of "Goku," and interestingly, Kogu and Goku are seen fighting each other in Super Dragon Ball Heroes' Prison Planet Saga.
