Zangya (ザンギャ) is one of the four Galaxy Soldiers serving under Bojack in Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Zangya has a distinctive look, featuring long, curly orange hair, bluish skin, blue eyes, and pointed ears. She is dressed in a white jacket and pants with gold buckles, a blue undershirt, black pull-on sleeves, a purple sash, gold jewelry, and yellow and black boots. In the magma chamber where she battles Krillin, she briefly appears to have light yellow or green skin due to the lighting. In Akira Toriyama's original concept art for the film, Zangya had red hair and green skin, mirroring the Full Power form of Bojack and Kogu.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Zangya is portrayed as cruel and ruthless, much like the other Galaxy Soldiers, and is known as "a deadly beauty." Her battle with Krillin showcases her merciless nature, taking advantage of his hesitation due to her looks. However, she is the only member of her team shown to experience fear, especially when Gohan, as a Super Saiyan 2, eliminates her teammates in front of her.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Bojack Unbound[edit | edit source]
In Bojack Unbound, Zangya first encounters Krillin at the Battle Zone filled with lava. Mistaking her for an official participant, Krillin is caught off guard by her beauty, allowing Zangya to swiftly defeat him and take his unconscious body to Bojack. Later, when Gohan arrives, Zangya teams up with her comrades to take down Yamcha and Tien Shinhan. She then assists in the battle against Gohan, but is ultimately killed by Bojack when he uses her as a shield against Gohan, who later defeats Bojack.
Fusion Reborn[edit | edit source]
Zangya makes a brief cameo in Fusion Reborn when the residents of Hell, including several Dragon Ball Z antagonists, escape to Earth due to Janemba's interference.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes[edit | edit source]
- Supreme Kai of Time Saga: Zangya appears as a competitor in the Super Space-Time Tournament alongside her comrades. In the manga, she fights Zarbon in a forest but is erased along with her space-time when her team fails to advance to the second round.
- Demon Invader Saga: In a particular Space-Time, Zangya is absorbed by Majin Ozotto.
In the battle against Gohan, but is ultimately killed by Bojack when he uses her as a shield against Gohan, who later defeats Bojack.
Dragon Ball Legends[edit | edit source]
Age 780: Post-Tournament of Power Events[edit | edit source]
After the Tournament of Power, Beerus and King Kai are coerced into organizing the Tournament of Time by a mysterious Mastermind who has kidnapped Shin. The Galaxy Soldiers, including Zangya, participate in the tournament. King Kai explains that the winner will have the opportunity to make a wish using the Super Dragon Balls, leading the Galaxy Soldiers to join the fray.
Bojack's Alliance and Betrayal[edit | edit source]
Bojack allies with the Organization of Babidi, who have secretly partnered with several notorious figures like Turles, Frost (leading a rogue Frieza Force faction), Dr. Gero, Android 19, and the Cooler Force. The Saiyan Army Remnants—Vegeta, Nappa, and their pupil Shallot—assist 1st Form Frieza in defeating Frost. Frieza then allies with Turles and Dr. Gero in exchange for the Fruit of the Tree of Might. However, this leads to Frieza betraying his Saiyan allies, resulting in Vegeta's death. Shallot, who achieves the Super Saiyan form, avenges Vegeta by defeating and killing Frieza. Turles is also defeated by Super Saiyan Shallot and is freed from Dark Ki but is killed by Babidi's mysterious ally, the Ancient Saiyan in Red.
After Shallot deals with Dr. Gero and his army of Android 19s and Android 20s, Android 16 is able to remind Dr. Gero of his original goal, freeing him from the Dark Ki before he perishes. Dabura assists New Cell in absorbing Shallot's allies, Android 17 and 18, and they plan the "Super Cell Games." Bojack and Cooler are part of New Cell's team. In the ensuing battles, Android 16 sacrifices himself to injure Bojack. Cooler is killed by New Cell, but New Cell is ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (Youth) and Super Saiyan 2 Shallot.
Babidi's Manipulations and Large-Scale Attack[edit | edit source]
Shallot and his allies learn that Babidi has brainwashed various fighters, including Ribrianne and Kale, with Dark Ki. Babidi deceives Team Beerus into believing he is the true Mastermind behind Shin's kidnapping and unleashes Innocent Buu to defeat Shallot. Babidi then launches a large-scale attack on the Capitol, sending his subordinates and allies, including a recovered Bojack and Zangya, who lead a group of Dark Ki-empowered combatants.
Battle Against Bojack and Zangya[edit | edit source]
During the attack on the Capitol, Super Saiyan Full Power Cabba and Super Saiyan Trunks (Youth) face off against Bojack and his forces. Bojack orders Zangya and her underlings to attack, but he secretly plans to sacrifice them to eliminate the two Super Saiyans. Cabba achieves his Super Saiyan 2 form after witnessing Bojack's ruthlessness, and alongside Trunks, he overpowers Bojack, even after the latter resorts to using Dark Ki. Bojack is ultimately killed, and Zangya is returned to her proper era with no memory of the tournament.
However, another version of Zangya is later brainwashed to serve the true Mastermind's group, and she is sent to interrupt Shallot's Super Saiyan God ritual. Shallot's allies manage to fend them off.
Surviving Galaxy Soldiers and the True Mastermind[edit | edit source]
After Babidi is revealed to be a puppet of Dark Ki and is killed by Shallot's twin brother Giblet (the true identity of the Saiyan in Red), it is revealed that Zahha, who had posed as Shallot and Cabba's ally, is the real Mastermind. Kogu, Bido, and Bujin join Zahha's forces to avenge Bojack's death and confront Cabba, Trunks (Youth), and Gohan (Youth). The Galaxy Soldiers mock Cabba for being unable to defeat even Zangya, much less Bojack.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Name Origin: Zangya's name is derived from the Japanese word "zangyaku," which means "cruelty" or "brutality."
- Original Design: In Akira Toriyama's original design, Zangya had red hair and green skin, similar to the transformed appearances of Bojack, Bujin, Bido, and Kogu. Her final design features light teal (sea-colored) skin. She briefly appeared with greenish-yellow skin due to the lighting in the lava chamber during her fight with Krillin.
- Resemblance to Android 18: Zangya has a facial structure very similar to Android 18. Krillin finds both women physically attractive, and in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Zangya humorously comments on how cute she finds Krillin. This prompts an irritated Android 18 to call Zangya a "skank" in older versions of the game, leading to a fight between the two.
- Voice Accent: In the Funimation English dub of Bojack Unbound, Zangya is the only member of the Galaxy Soldiers with an American English accent.
- Sliding Attack: Her sliding attack resembles a baseball slide. She amusingly uses it against Yamcha, a professional baseball player for the Taitans.
- First Female Henchman in a DBZ Movie: Zangya is the only female henchman in a Dragon Ball Z movie. However, she is not the first in the franchise; that title belongs to Pasta from Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, who served King Gurumes. Both Zangya and Pasta share orange hair and blue eyes.
- Fate Comparison with Pasta: Unlike Pasta, who is revealed to be an antagonist in her debut film and survives the events, Zangya remains a henchwoman and is killed during the events of Bojack Unbound.
- Death by Bojack: Zangya is one of several movie henchmen who die at the hands of the villain they serve. This fate is shared by characters like Commander Zeeun, Moah, Tagoma, Shisami, several combatants involved in Frieza's revenge, and Paragus from Dragon Ball Super. Zangya is the only member of the Galaxy Soldiers not to be killed by any of the Z Fighters. Instead, Bojack kills her in Bojack Unbound.
- Similar Fate with Kogu: Zangya and Kogu are the only two members of the Galaxy Soldiers who are not killed by Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. Kogu is defeated by Super Saiyan Future Trunks.
- Bojack's Avenge Hints: In Super Butoden 2, it is hinted that Bojack would avenge Zangya despite having killed her himself in the original movie. Ironically, Bojack kills Zangya again during the Tournament of Time in Dragon Ball Legends.
