Dodoria (ドドリア Dodoria) is a member of the Frieza Force, serving as one of Frieza's top generals and right-hand men alongside Zarbon. He is known for his ruthless nature and brutal strength.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

  • Physical Description: Dodoria is a large, pink alien warrior characterized by spikes protruding from his arms and head. He typically wears a blue variant of the standard Battle Armor common among Frieza's forces, complete with brown shoulder pads and a green scouter.
  • Finger Count: In the manga, Dodoria is depicted with only three fingers per hand, while in the anime, he has four fingers and a thumb, more like a human hand.
  • Skin Color: While Dodoria is portrayed as pink in the manga, Akira Toriyama's later artwork for the Kanzenban version of the series depicts him with golden skin.

Personality[edit | edit source]

  • Demeanor: Dodoria is brash, vulgar, and quick to anger, in contrast to Zarbon's more refined personality. His intelligence is often overshadowed by his violent temper and uncontrollable lust for destruction, which only Frieza's command can restrain.
  • Underestimation of Enemies: Dodoria often underestimates his opponents, a mistake he made with Bardock, the Namekians, and Vegeta. His overconfidence and carelessness in finishing off enemies often lead to his downfall.
  • Sadism: Dodoria is notably sadistic, deriving pleasure from the slaughter of Saiyans and Namekians, including children like Cargo and Dende, and elders like Moori. He often solves problems with brute force and harbors disdain for the Saiyan race, similar to Zarbon.
  • Limits to Cruelty: Despite his vicious nature, Dodoria has limits. He was visibly horrified when Frieza annihilated Planet Vegeta and its inhabitants, including his own soldiers, in Age 737. His fear and nervousness when Frieza ordered the spaceship opened before the army's return further illustrate this limit.
  • Leadership Style: In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Dodoria is shown to be well-liked by his troops despite his rough personality. He treats them well, even taking them out to eat when in a good mood, making him popular among the more rugged members of the Frieza Force. His hands-on approach and willingness to fight alongside his men make him a respected field commander, in contrast to Zarbon's obsession with beauty and perfection.
  • Rivalry with Zarbon: Dodoria is depicted as having a rivalry with Zarbon in the Xenoverse series. While Dodoria focuses on brute strength and camaraderie with his troops, Zarbon's meticulous and beauty-obsessed nature makes him less favored in combat situations.
  • Taste in Food: In Dragon Ball Legends, Dodoria expresses a strong dislike for Earth's food, even attempting to destroy a restaurant. He is stopped by Shallot, who enjoys Earth's cuisine and suggests that Dodoria has poor taste, a sentiment that would be shared by gourmets like Beerus and Whis.

Biography:[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Dodoria initially served under King Cold as a member of the Cold Force, alongside Zarbon and the Ginyu Force, before Cold passed control to his son Frieza. Upon Frieza's rise to power, the Cold Force was rebranded as the Frieza Force, and Dodoria became one of Frieza's two highest-ranking generals, the other being Zarbon. With his high power level, Dodoria was not only an enforcer for Frieza but also one of his closest attendants.

According to Toyotarou's interpretation in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Dodoria and his subordinates killed Tora and his team after being contacted by Leek about the order to return to Planet Vegeta. This mirrors events from Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku, where Dodoria was sent to Planet Meat to eradicate Team Bardock, as they were potential survivors of Frieza's plan to exterminate the Saiyans.

Dragon Ball Z[edit | edit source]

Frieza Saga[edit | edit source]

Dodoria accompanies Frieza and Zarbon to Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls, which Frieza intends to use to achieve immortality and maintain his dominance over the universe. Dodoria helps Frieza collect the Dragon Balls by brutally torturing and slaughtering the Namekians to extract information.

When Vegeta arrives on Namek to pursue his own agenda of collecting the Dragon Balls, Dodoria's scouter detects Vegeta's power level at 24,000. Dismissing it as a malfunction, Dodoria doesn't believe Vegeta could be stronger than him.

As Frieza continues his rampage, three Namekian warriors appear to defend their people. Dodoria mocks them for their initially low power levels, but he is shocked when they power up and easily defeat Frieza's low-level soldiers. Dodoria then brutally slaughters the three warriors on Frieza's orders. When the village elder Moori destroys the scouters to prevent further tracking of the Dragon Balls, Dodoria kills him after he reveals the location of the village's Dragon Ball but refuses to disclose the locations of others.

Dodoria attempts to kill Dende, but Gohan intervenes, knocking Dodoria into a house, allowing Krillin and Gohan to rescue the young Namekian. Enraged, Dodoria chases them but is temporarily blinded by Krillin's Solar Flare technique, allowing them to escape.

Assuming he has killed them with his Maximum Buster attack, Dodoria heads back to Frieza. On his way, he is ambushed by Vegeta, who has decided to betray Frieza and achieve immortality for himself. Dodoria, realizing Vegeta's increased power after his near-death experience on Earth, tries to bargain for his life by revealing the secret behind the destruction of Planet Vegeta.

Vegeta, intrigued by the information, listens as Dodoria explains that Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta out of fear of the Saiyans' potential. However, Vegeta has no intention of sparing Dodoria and ruthlessly kills him with a Finish Blaster as the general attempts to flee back to Frieza.

Dragon Ball Super[edit | edit source]

Golden Frieza Saga[edit | edit source]

Dodoria makes several brief appearances in Dragon Ball Super, particularly during the Golden Frieza Saga. In a flashback scene, Dodoria is seen alongside Zarbon and the Ginyu Force when Sorbet, one of Frieza's loyal subordinates, laments the significant losses suffered by the Frieza Force after the defeat on Namek. Dodoria is shown in silhouette, symbolizing his role in the once-powerful Frieza Force.

Additionally, Dodoria is mentioned in connection with Tagoma, a soldier in Frieza's army. Tagoma recalls a time when he witnessed Frieza, Dodoria, and Captain Ginyu together. Sorbet later references Dodoria's power level, comparing it to Tagoma's, which leads to Frieza harshly reprimanding Tagoma for suggesting that his elites ever displayed such cowardice.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes[edit | edit source]

In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes promotional anime, Dodoria appears in the Supreme Kai of Time Saga as one of the competitors in the Super Space-Time Tournament. He teams up with other notable villains, including Mecha Frieza, Zarbon, Shisami, Cui, Tagoma, and Sorbet. In the manga version, Dodoria engages in a battle with Bido in a forest. However, his team fails to advance to the tournament's second round, resulting in Dodoria and his entire space-time being erased.

Dragon Ball GT[edit | edit source]

Super 17 Saga[edit | edit source]

In Dragon Ball GT, Dodoria escapes from Hell alongside Zarbon during the Super 17 Saga. They wreak havoc on Earth alongside other resurrected villains. However, Dodoria is ultimately defeated once again by the Dragon Team and is sent back to Hell.

Film Appearances[edit | edit source]

Bardock - The Father of Goku[edit | edit source]

Dodoria plays a significant role in the film Bardock - The Father of Goku, where he is depicted as one of Frieza's top two henchmen alongside Zarbon. In the film, Dodoria and his elites are sent to Planet Meat to eliminate Bardock and his team of Saiyan fighters as part of Frieza's plan to exterminate the Saiyan race. Dodoria and his men successfully kill most of Bardock's team but leave Bardock himself severely injured, assuming he would soon die from his injuries.

Frieza, however, decides to eliminate the entire Saiyan race by destroying Planet Vegeta. Dodoria and Zarbon are the only two witnesses to Frieza's Supernova attack, which obliterates the planet and its inhabitants.

Broly[edit | edit source]

Dodoria appears in Dragon Ball Super: Broly during a flashback set on Planet Vegeta. He is seen alongside Zarbon and the Ginyu Force during the transition period when King Cold retires and hands control of the Cold Force to his son Frieza, who renames it the Frieza Force. Dodoria witnesses King Vegeta's meeting with Frieza and King Cold and watches as Frieza demonstrates the capabilities of his Scouter by effortlessly killing several hidden Saiyan snipers.

Other Dragon Ball Stories[edit | edit source]

Episode of Bardock[edit | edit source]

In Episode of Bardock, Dodoria makes a brief appearance during Bardock's final stand against Frieza. Unlike in Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku, where Dodoria and Zarbon remain inside the spaceship, they are shown alongside Frieza when he destroys Planet Vegeta. This marks a slight variation in how the events are portrayed across different stories.

Dragon Ball Online[edit | edit source]

Dodoria appears during the fifth Time Machine Quest in Dragon Ball Online. In this quest, he is seen attacking a Namekian village with Frieza. Afterward, he is sent to pursue Krillin, Gohan, and Dende. After being defeated by Vegeta, Dodoria's corpse is discovered by Towa, a powerful sorceress from the future. Towa revives and brainwashes Dodoria using a green Time Breaker stone, turning him into a giant. However, despite this enhancement, Dodoria is once again defeated and killed by the Time Patrol.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2[edit | edit source]

Ruckus on Planet Namek Saga[edit | edit source]

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Dodoria plays a significant role in the "Ruckus on Planet Namek Saga." The story takes place in Age 762, during the Frieza Force's assault on Namek. After Gohan intervenes to save Dende, history is altered by Towa's Dark Magic, causing both Zarbon and Dodoria to pursue Krillin, Gohan, and Dende. The Future Warrior from Age 852 is sent to ensure the trio's escape.

  • Initial Pursuit: As in the original history, Krillin uses Solar Flare to temporarily blind Dodoria. However, Zarbon blocks the escape route, allowing Dodoria to recover. The Future Warrior arrives just in time to help Krillin, who instructs Gohan to flee with Dende. Zarbon orders Dodoria to chase after Gohan and Dende, while he deals with the Future Warrior and Krillin.
  • Future Warrior's Intervention: The Future Warrior aids Krillin in escaping, and they later find that Vegeta has attacked Dodoria, allowing Gohan and Dende to escape. With history seemingly restored, the Future Warrior prepares to return to Age 852 but is suddenly attacked by a mysterious Namekian, later identified as Lord Slug. Slug, a Super Namekian with a dark heart, is not supposed to be present on Namek during this time. Future Trunks arrives to chase off Slug, and the Future Warrior resumes the mission.
  • Dark Dodoria: Towa further empowers Dodoria using the 2nd stage Villainous Mode, transforming him into Dark Dodoria. The Future Warrior teams up with Vegeta to defeat Dark Dodoria. During the battle, Dodoria, as in the original history, reveals the truth about the Genocide of the Saiyans, which enrages Vegeta. After the Future Warrior defeats Dark Dodoria, removing Towa's enchantment, Dodoria attempts to flee, calling out for Frieza. However, he is ultimately killed by Vegeta with an energy wave. Vegeta, still suspicious of the Future Warrior's identity, wonders who they are as they vanish, having returned to Age 852 after correcting history.
  • Restoring History: Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time, restores the proper history by reassembling the altered scrolls, erasing the changes made by Towa and restoring the original timeline.
