Jeice (ジース Jīsu, lit. "Jheese") is a member of the Ginyu Force, serving as Captain Ginyu's second-in-command and often partnering with Burter for combination attacks like the Purple Comet Attack. He is known as the "Red Magma" due to his red-skinned, humanoid appearance.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Jeice has bright red skin, long white hair that reaches down to his hips, and white eyebrows. He is of average height compared to other Ginyu Force members. He wears the white variant of the regular Battle Armor used by Frieza's soldiers, with the addition of a small Ginyu Force logo on his chest plate. He also dons a black jumpsuit with sleeves under his armor, white gloves, and boots, and uses a green scouter. In the special Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends!, a flashback shows him without the black jumpsuit top, leaving his upper body bare under his armor.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Jeice shares the Ginyu Force's love for eccentric poses. He is arrogant, often looking down on opponents, and is cowardly, fleeing when outmatched. He is dishonorable, willing to attack opponents when their backs are turned and using dirty tactics. Jeice also exhibits narcissistic tendencies, as shown by his concern over dirt in his hair and his rivalry with Salza over who looks more attractive.

Despite his cruelty, Jeice is not entirely without compassion. He is horrified by the deaths of his comrades and shares a close bond with Burter, respecting each other's abilities and often synchronizing their attacks. He holds Captain Ginyu in high regard, always coming to his aid, listening to his opinions, and boasting about his power. Captain Ginyu, despite being occasionally annoyed by Jeice's cowardly behavior and interruptions, trusts him greatly, making Jeice his right-hand man.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Jeice hails from a planet in the same planetary system as Salza's home, Coola No. 98. According to Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Jeice and Salza are of the same race. Jeice developed his special move, the Crusher Ball, while playing as a pitcher in the Galactic Little League during his childhood. While Salza became the leader of Cooler's Armored Squadron, Jeice joined the Ginyu Force, where he became Ginyu's second-in-command. He had a rivalry with Salza over who was the better fighter and who looked more attractive.

Jeice accompanies Ginyu when they confront Goku. When Ginyu switches bodies with Goku, Jeice assists by firing a beam at Goku to distract him. However, Ginyu warns Jeice not to interfere again. Jeice later fights Vegeta, but Vegeta's strength has increased significantly, and Jeice is ultimately defeated and killed by Vegeta's Genocide Breaker.

In the anime, after his death, Jeice and the other Ginyu Force members confront the Dragon Team on King Kai's Planet but are defeated and sent to Hell.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Name Origin: Jeice's original name, "Jheese" (Jīzu), is a play on the Japanese word chīzu, meaning "cheese." The Viz manga uses the name "Jheese" to highlight this pun. In the English dub, his name is a pun on "juice," which is also referenced by Chi-Chi in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 when she comments that she initially thought his name was Juice.
  • Accents in Different Dubs: In the Ocean dub, Jeice was given a Brummie accent by Scott McNeil. When Funimation took over the dubbing, his accent was changed to Australian for reasons that are not entirely clear. In Dragon Ball Z Kai, Jason Liebriecht provided Jeice with a New Zealander accent.
  • Censorship in Video Games: In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Jeice would say, "Don't play stupid with me, wanker!" before a battle. However, the sequels, Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3, removed the word "wanker" due to its inappropriateness, though a faint "w" sound can still be heard at the end of the phrase.
  • What-If Scenario: In Dragon Ball Z: Super Gokuden: Kakusei-Hen, players can trigger a what-if scenario by giving a wrong answer, leading Jeice to fight Vegeta and "the brats" (Gohan and Krillin) instead of Recoome.
  • Customization in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Jeice's hairstyle is available as Custom Hair Option Type 23 for Saiyan and Earthling characters, although the length of the hair is slightly reduced.
