Salza (サウザー Sauzā) is a character from the Dragon Ball Z universe, serving as the leader of Cooler's Armored Squadron under the Cooler Force.
Appearance
- Physical Traits: Salza is a turquoise-skinned humanoid alien with short, blond hair that is styled to the left, resembling the hairstyle of Trunks.
- Attire: He wears standard body armor similar to his comrades in the Cooler Force, paired with a full-body suit that is typically purple, though it appears yellow in some versions, such as in Fusion Reborn.
- Species: Salza belongs to the Brench-seijin race, which shares some similarities in appearance with Jeice, another member of the Frieza Force.
Personality
- Intelligence: Salza is portrayed as highly intelligent, being fluent in 7,000 languages and recognized as the genius of his planet[5][6]. His tactical acumen is evident when he quickly devises strategies, such as ordering the destruction of Kakarot's space pod during its escape from Planet Vegeta's destruction. His quick thinking is also displayed during battle, as when he correctly anticipated Piccolo's strategy in a fight.
- Attitude Towards Saiyans: Like many in the Frieza Force, Salza holds a low opinion of Saiyans. He derogatorily refers to Planet Vegeta as a "monkey farm" in the Funimation dub and expresses disdain for the Saiyan race.
- Loyalty and Cruelty: Salza is fiercely loyal to Cooler, showing deep concern for his comrades. He becomes enraged when Dore is killed by Piccolo and urges Neiz to make Piccolo suffer. His sadistic tendencies are apparent when he refers to the destruction of Planet Vegeta as "entertainment" and jokes about the difficulty of finding Goku and Gohan's bodies after their area is ravaged by energy attacks.
- Demeanor in Funimation Dub: In the Funimation dub of Cooler's Revenge, Salza is given a French accent with a slightly effeminate tone, adding a unique flair to his character.
Biography
Background:
- Origin: Salza is from the same star system as Jeice[7] known as Coola No. 98, formerly planet Brench[5]. This high-gravity environment contributed to his development as a highly agile and fast fighter.
- Appearance: He has blue skin and blond hair that curls to the left, distinguishing him from other characters. His planet's gravity played a significant role in his physical prowess.
- Competition: Salza competed with Captain Ginyu for the position of leader of the Armored Squad. He is among the few who have seen Ginyu's true form.
- Rivalry: He has a rivalry with Jeice, with both arguing over who is the superior fighter and more attractive.
- Destruction of Planet Vegeta: Salza witnessed the destruction of Planet Vegeta from Cooler's spaceship. He was initially amused by the destruction and referred to the Saiyan race and their planet in derogatory terms. He identified Kakarot's Attack Ball escaping the system and attempted to order its interception, but Cooler overruled him.
Cooler's Revenge
Background in the Movie:
- Mission: After Frieza's defeat on Namek, Salza reports the news to Cooler. Cooler decides to seek revenge on Earth, targeting the Saiyans who defeated his brother.
- Initial Encounter: On Earth, Salza successfully defeats Gohan and Krillin. He then faces Goku, and the fight reaches a standstill. Salza fires his Full Power Energy Wave, but Goku deflects it, hitting Neiz instead. Salza is surprised by Cooler's sudden arrival and stops fighting Goku.
Actions and Battles:
- Ambush: Salza and the Armored Squadron attempt to finish off Goku after Cooler injures him, ambushing Gohan and Icarus as they seek Senzu Beans for Goku. Piccolo intervenes.
- Confrontation with Piccolo: After Dore and Neiz are killed by Piccolo, Salza fights Piccolo but is initially overpowered. Despite deflecting some of Piccolo's attacks, Salza is eventually outmatched. He tries to counterattack with ki blasts and his Salza Blade but is ultimately overwhelmed.
- Cooler's Intervention: Cooler defeats Piccolo, allowing Salza to pursue Gohan. Salza destroys the Senzu Beans and defeats Krillin and Gohan easily.
- Final Showdown: Salza is shocked by Goku's increased power, which exceeds his scouter's capacity. He witnesses Cooler seemingly kill Piccolo and attempts to fight Goku but finds his attacks ineffective. Goku defeats Salza with a powerful aura expulsion, sending him crashing into a mountain.
Demise:
- Final Moments: After Cooler's defeat, Salza emerges from the rubble and prepares to finish off Goku, Gohan, and Krillin. However, Piccolo, having survived, shoots him with a Special Beam Cannon, killing Salza and confirming his own survival to the other Z Fighters.
Fusion Reborn
Salza makes a brief appearance when the residents of Hell escape to Earth. His spandex color is yellow, differing from the usual purple seen in other appearances.
Other Dragon Ball Stories
What-if Scenarios:
- Budokai Tenkaichi 2:
- Scenario: In Zarbon's "Beautiful Treachery" storyline, Salza is involved in the plot where Zarbon seeks the Namekian Dragon Balls to enhance his beauty. Zarbon, along with the Ginyu Force and Salza, creates a situation leading to a conflict between Frieza and Cooler. This clash results in Frieza battling his brother Cooler.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes:
- Supreme Kai of Time Saga: In this alternate scenario, Salza, along with Dore, Neiz, and other combatants, forms Team 10 and competes in the Super Space-Time Tournament. Salza is depicted battling Recoome in a forest and kicking away his energy wave. Despite their efforts, Salza and his team fail to advance to the second round and are erased from existence as a result.
