Creation[edit | edit source]

This version of Paragus is inspired by his counterpart from Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Paragus is depicted as significantly older than his original counterpart in the film's present-day timeline. However, his design from forty years prior appears to draw heavily from the younger version of the Z Paragus.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Paragus is a tall, muscular Saiyan with some key differences from his Z counterpart. He has a fairer complexion, a less pronounced forehead, and a smaller chin. Over the years, Paragus has aged considerably, even by Saiyan standards. His once-spiky black hair with long sideburns and a well-groomed mustache has turned gray, and he now sports a full beard. Wrinkles are prominent on his face, and he has darker skin compared to his younger self, though not as dark as his Z counterpart. He also bears a long scar running down his left eye, which he has lost.

In his youth, Paragus wore traditional black Saiyan armor with yellow shoulder padding, a blue legless bottom, white gloves and boots, and a white cape with a high collar. He kept his tail draped loosely around his waist. After joining the Frieza Force, his attire changed to a dark purple jumpsuit, a light purple robe around his waist, white gloves and boots, and a new model of Frieza Force armor with white and green accents. He also wears a mechanical belt containing the controller for Broly’s shock collar.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Paragus initially appeared to deeply care for his son, Broly, as demonstrated when he defied King Vegeta and rescued Broly after his banishment. He risked everything to save his son, even fleeing Planet Vegeta. However, years of isolation on Vampa and his inability to return home twisted his love into a self-serving obsession with revenge against King Vegeta's bloodline.

While he trained Broly to become the ultimate warrior for his revenge, Paragus maintained a degree of pride in his son’s abilities, praising him for his survival skills on Vampa. However, his ambitions often overshadowed his parental instincts. He sacrificed Broly’s first friendship to force him into training, maintained strict control over his interactions with others, and distrusted Cheelai, whom he viewed as a bad influence. Despite his manipulative tendencies, Paragus showed moments of concern for Broly, particularly when it seemed Broly was overwhelmed in battle.

Unlike his Z counterpart, who used mind control to manipulate Broly and attempted to abandon him when he became uncontrollable, this version of Paragus begged Frieza to save his son when his restraints failed. His bond with Broly was complex, marked by a mix of pride, ambition, and genuine concern.

Paragus demonstrated teaching prowess, training Broly into an incredibly skilled fighter, as noted by Vegeta. While Broly’s immense power largely stems from his own innate abilities, Paragus’s guidance refined his combat techniques, making him a truly formidable warrior.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Paragus was once a loyal military colonel under King Vegeta. His life took a dramatic turn when his son, Broly, was born with a potential power that far exceeded that of Prince Vegeta. Consumed by jealousy, King Vegeta exiled Broly, sending him to the remote and hazardous planet Vampa in a Saiyan space pod. Enraged by this decision, Paragus betrayed King Vegeta and embarked on a mission to rescue his son.

Accompanied by Beets, Paragus crash-landed on Vampa, where the harsh environment and dangerous native creatures proved perilous. After locating Broly, Paragus discovered their ship was irreparably damaged, leaving them stranded on the desolate planet. Faced with limited resources, Paragus shot and killed Beets with a ray gun to preserve their food supply.

Determined to survive and achieve his revenge, Paragus dedicated himself to training Broly into the ultimate warrior. At one point, he severed the ear of Broly's only friend, the beast Ba, disapproving of their bond. He also removed Broly's tail to prevent the uncontrollable transformations that occurred when Broly accessed the Great Ape form, deeming it too dangerous.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly[edit | edit source]

Years later, Paragus and Broly were discovered by a platoon of Frieza's soldiers, who brought them to Frieza. Paragus introduced himself and his son, explaining Broly's immense power and the measures he took to control him, including a shock collar activated via a remote device. Intrigued by their story and potential, Frieza recruited them into his army. Upon learning that Prince Vegeta had survived, Paragus eagerly joined Frieza’s mission to Earth, seeking revenge against the son of King Vegeta.

During the journey to Earth, Broly lost control while fighting Daigen in the ship's cafeteria. Paragus used the remote to subdue him, unaware that Cheelai had secretly stolen the device. Later, Paragus struck a deal with Frieza, agreeing to let him target Goku while Paragus focused on exacting vengeance on Vegeta.

On Earth, Paragus immediately recognized Vegeta’s resemblance to King Vegeta and vowed retribution. He unleashed Broly against the two Saiyans but was stunned by Vegeta's power, especially his transformations into Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God. As Vegeta began to dominate the battle, Paragus fell into despair, only to discover that the device to control Broly was missing. Broly, overwhelmed by rage, began tapping into the power of the Great Ape while retaining his humanoid form.

As the fight escalated and Goku joined the battle, Paragus grew increasingly distraught. Witnessing Broly’s struggle against Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue form, Paragus began doubting his own convictions, even considering that King Vegeta might have been correct in deeming Broly too dangerous.

Paragus’s obsession with revenge came to an abrupt end when Frieza, seeking to trigger Broly's Super Saiyan transformation, executed Paragus with a Death Beam. His death served its purpose, as Broly’s grief and rage pushed him to transform into a Super Saiyan. Paragus’s remains were ultimately vaporized during Broly’s ensuing rampage.

  • Dead Punisher - Paragus: BR's super attack in Dragon Ball Heroes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Like his original counterpart, Paragus's name is a pun on the vegetable asparagus.

  • While Paragus's exact age is not confirmed, Vegeta's statement that Saiyans remain in their prime until age 80 suggests Paragus is likely older than 80.
  • Paragus is the first Saiyan shown to have visibly aged past the prime fighting age of his race, as evidenced by his gray hair.
  • Unlike his original counterpart, Paragus never witnessed his son transform into a Super Saiyan or Legendary Super Saiyan, as he was killed by Frieza before Broly's transformation occurred.
  • How Paragus lost his left eye remains unexplained, contrasting with his original counterpart, whose injuries were directly tied to his backstory.
