Appearance:[edit | edit source]

Android 19 has a distinctive look with completely white skin, two dangling earrings, and oversized orange pants. He wears a large white vest with a broad red sash and an orange hat adorned with the Red Ribbon Army logo. His appearance is completed with pointed, light blue eyes. Under his hat, he has a domed glass cranium, similar to Android 20, but with a pinkish hue and an entirely mechanical brain inside.

Personality:[edit | edit source]

Android 19 is the most loyal and obedient of Dr. Gero's creations. He is dedicated to Gero's revenge against Goku and is eager to confront him. Android 19 is intelligent and was able to convert Dr. Gero into Android 20, another energy-absorbing model like himself. He is confident in his abilities and takes pleasure in his opponent's suffering, such as when he exploits Goku's weakened state caused by the Heart Virus. However, his reliance on outdated data from Dr. Gero’s Remote Tracking Device, which only tracked battles from the Saiyan and Trunks Sagas, leads to his overconfidence. This proves detrimental when he faces Super Saiyan Vegeta, who has trained intensively for three years. Despite being a machine, Android 19 is capable of feeling fear and shows a cowardly reaction when confronted by Super Saiyan Vegeta, attempting to flee in a state of panic.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Background:[edit | edit source]

Android 19 is the last android created by Dr. Gero using purely synthetic technology (though in some alternate timelines, Android 16 holds this distinction). The design of Android 19 was inspired by a doll Dr. Gero had as a trophy from an enemy base. To achieve immortality, Dr. Gero transferred his brain into an android body, becoming Android 20, with Android 19 performing the transplantation.

Dragon Ball Z:[edit | edit source]

Cell Saga[edit | edit source]

Android 19, accompanied by Android 20, first appears during an attack on an island southwest of South City. As mechanical beings with no ki, they remain undetectable to the Dragon Team, leading to Yamcha’s unfortunate encounter with them. Android 19, alongside Android 20, is involved in a violent assault that leaves Yamcha severely injured.

Later, Android 19 challenges Goku, who transforms into a Super Saiyan, gaining the upper hand. However, Goku’s heart virus, which Future Trunks had warned about, starts affecting him later than anticipated, rendering him powerless and vulnerable to Android 19's energy absorption. Before Android 19 can fully drain Goku’s energy, he is interrupted by Vegeta, who surprises everyone by also transforming into a Super Saiyan.

In the ensuing battle between Android 19 and Vegeta, 19 is severely beaten. Attempting to drain Vegeta's energy, Android 19 finds himself unable to hold on as Vegeta tears off his arms and ultimately destroys him with a Big Bang Attack, reducing him to scrap metal. After the battle, Future Trunks arrives and is initially confused by the decapitated head of Android 19, realizing it is not the same android from his future.

In the anime, Goku dreams while sleeping of defeating Android 19 in his Super Saiyan form while he is recovering from the virus.

Dragon Ball GT[edit | edit source]

Super 17 Saga:[edit | edit source]

Android 19, alongside Pui Pui, is shown using Villainous Carnage after escaping from Hell. He is destroyed comically when Goten and Trunks, noticing him out of the corner of their eyes, fire a barrage of ki blasts into an alley, causing his head to fly off once more.

Shadow Dragon Saga:[edit | edit source]

In a flashback, Android 19 is seen firing energy blasts.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes[edit | edit source]

Supreme Kai of Time Saga: An incarnation of Android 19 participates in the Super Space-Time Tournament alongside Androids 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18. His team fails to advance to the second round, resulting in Android 19 and his space-time being erased.

Super Hero:[edit | edit source]

Android 19 makes a brief appearance during the Red Ribbon Army recap, standing alongside Android 20.

Dragon Ball Fusions:[edit | edit source]

Androids 19 and 20 appear among historical figures within the Timespace Rift created by Tekka and Pinich's wish to Shenron for a tournament to determine the strongest fighters in time and space. They join forces with other androids from different timelines and cause trouble, primarily focusing on absorbing energy from powerful fighters. In Dragon Ball Fusions, Android 19 is categorized as an Earthling.

Sub-Event: "Justice's Little Ally":[edit | edit source]

Androids 19 and 20 are part of a group causing trouble in Satan City. If Tekka’s Team chooses to track down the "Old Guy and the Fatty," they will encounter Androids 19 and 20. During the confrontation, Android 20 questions the high power levels of Tekka’s Team, while Android 19 confirms the readings. After a battle, Android 19 and 20 are defeated and captured by Tekka’s Team, who then returns to Uub, who has also defeated Androids 17 and 18. If Tekka’s Team had selected the other group, Uub would defeat 19 and 20 by himself.

In the game, Androids 19 and 20 can also be encountered on a cliff overlooking the Future Capsule Corporation building in Area F3. They appear as a strong enemy and can be recruited by KOing them with a Zenkai Attack, after which they join Tekka’s Team and appear on the Team’s Spaceship.

Possibly Resistance to Sleep Manipulation (Does not feel fatigue)

Attack Potency: At least Dwarf Star level, possibly at least Small Star level (Scales to his durability. Dr. Gero was initially confident that Android 19 and himself could handle the power of a heart virus-stricken Super Saiyan Goku. Is weaker than Dr. Gero but not by a vast amount), higher after absorbing energy (Could add the power of those whose energy he drained to his own. His power multiplied after absorbing Super Saiyan Goku's Kamehameha and ultimately defeated Goku after his heart virus' effects began to worsen)

Speed: At least Hypersonic+ flight speed (Faster than Krillin who can fly this quickly), At least FTL+, possibly Massively FTL+ combat speed (Is weaker than Dr. Gero but not by a vast amount and possesses the same basic abilities as him. Effortlessly dodged Dr. Gero's lasers from close range, whereas Goku only narrowly evaded them), higher after absorbing energy (Multiplied his power after absorbing Super Saiyan Goku's Kamehameha and became more powerful than him, evading his attacks and ultimately defeating him)

Stamina: Superhuman (Does not feel pain or fatigue but reached dangerously low levels of energy after fighting Goku for no more than a few minutes), can keep on fighting for virtually unlimited periods of time by replenishing his power by absorbing his opponent's energy

Range: Standard Melee Range, at least Planetary with offensive energy techniques

Standard Equipment: Absorption Devices on its hands, Built-in Scouter

Intelligence: Above Average

Weaknesses: If someone were to break its absorption devices, it will need a repair or else 19 will have a limited amount of energy to fight on.

Notable Attacks/Techniques[edit | edit source]

  • Energy Absorption – also known as Life Drain 19. A technique where Android 19 takes hold of an opponent with his hands and proceeds to drain their energy through his palms. In the Androids Saga, 19 uses this as a last resort against Vegeta, who spends the duration of their battle outclassing him, but is yet again overpowered when Vegeta tears off 19's arms.
    • 19 Absorb - Android 19's signature attack in the Raging Blast Series.
    • Energy Drain - A Special Move used by Android 19 in Dragon Ball Fusions that allows him to steal enemy HP.
      • Super Energy Drain - A stronger version of Energy Drain that appears as one of Android 19's Special Moves in Dragon Ball Fusions.
        • Hyper Energy Drain An even stronger version of Energy that is stronger than Super Energy Drain. Can be learned by Android 19 as a Special Move after reaching Lv. 59 in Dragon Ball Fusions.
    • Energy Wave Absorption - A Ki Blast counter Special Move that allows Android 19 to absorb Ki Blast techniques in Dragon Ball Fusions.
      • Super EW Absorption - A stronger version of Energy Wave Absorption that appears as one of Android 19's Special Moves in Dragon Ball Fusions.
  • Photon Shot – A Full Power Energy Wave fired from the palm of 19's hand.
    • Villainous Carnage – Android 19 and Pui Pui both fire Full Power Energy Waves in opposite directions. Used in Dragon Ball GT and named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
  • Cybernetic Pain – A High Power Rush used by Android 19. Also called Yahoo!
  • Eye Beam – Android 19 uses this move in the anime, as well as in the Raging Blast series.
    • Bionic Punisher – A synthetic form of Eye Laser used by Android 19, as well as Android 20.
  • Rolling Crush – Android 19 kicks the opponent up and grabs them in mid-air to perform a spinning piledriver. Used in the Budokai series.
  • Power Break – Android 19 kicks the opponent up in the air, and then he kicks and punches them down again. Used in the Budokai series.
  • Pump Up – A move Android 19 used in the Budokai Tenkaichi series and Raging Blast series.
  • False Courage – A move Android 19 used in the Budokai Tenkaichi series and Raging Blast series.
  • Guard Up - A Special Move in Dragon Ball Fusions that allows Android 19 to increase his Defense by powering up.
  • EX-Fusion - By wearing a Metamo-Ring and performing the Fusion Dance, Android 19 can fuse with Android 20/Dr. Gero to create Android 1920.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Original Concept: According to Akira Toriyama, Androids 19 and 20 were initially meant to be the androids foretold by Future Trunks. However, due to former editor Kazuhiko Torishima's feedback that they appeared "outdated and ridiculous," Toriyama decided to introduce Androids 17 and 18 instead.
  • Liquid Leakage: When Vegeta rips off Android 19's hands, red liquid leaks from his arms, resembling blood. However, as a synthetic android, he should be losing oil. Vegeta even refers to it as oil in the original series.
  • Brain Case: Android 19 has an electronic brain case under his hat, similar to Android 20's human brain case. In "Dragon Ball Fusions," this trait is shared with Androids 33, 44, and 55, although their brain cases are left uncovered.
  • Loyalty: Except for Android 13, 14, and 15, Android 19 is the only android that follows Dr. Gero's orders without rebelling. Androids 17 and 18 rebelled and killed Dr. Gero, while Android 16 ignored his programming to help Gohan awaken his Super Saiyan 2 form.
  • Fear: Despite his loyalty, Android 19 shows fear when overpowered by Super Saiyan Vegeta, considering retreat as his only viable option due to the loss of his arms.
  • Return from Hell: Android 19 reappears when Android 17 and Hell Fighter 17 open a portal between Earth and Hell. This trait is shared with Major Metallitron. The existence of artificial souls, as revealed in "Dragon Ball FighterZ," may explain why Androids like 19 and Metallitron ended up in Hell.
  • Decapitation: Android 19 is decapitated on both occasions he is defeated, in "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball GT."
  • Voice Variations: In the original Japanese dub and most other dubs, Android 19 has a human-like voice. The Funimation dub features a nasally animatronic voice, though this filter is removed in the remastered season box sets. In the American Budokai series, his voice resembles Majin Buu's.
  • Special Dialogue: In the "Raging Blast" series, Android 19 accuses Chiaotzu of copying his looks, to which Chiaotzu responds, "Copy you, why would I?"
