Appule (アプール, Apūru) is a mid-ranking soldier in the Frieza Force, noted for his intelligence and power, placing him above the unnamed Frieza Soldiers but below Zarbon, Dodoria, and Cui in rank.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Appule is a purple-skinned alien with yellow spots on his body and head. He lacks a nose and is always seen wearing traditional Frieza Force battle armor. Unlike many other members of the force, he is never shown wearing a scouter.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Appule is loyal and obedient, promptly following the orders of both Zarbon and Frieza. He is relatively intelligent; for example, he correctly deduces that Vegeta had already taken the Dragon Ball from a Namekian village upon finding its inhabitants dead. Appule shows contempt for the Namekians, mocking them during their deaths. He can also be arrogant, as seen when he taunts the wounded Vegeta just before his own demise.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Dragon Ball Z[edit | edit source]

Saiyan Saga[edit | edit source]

Appule is among those chosen by Dodoria and Zarbon on Planet Frieza 79 for a top-secret mission to invade Namek, just as Goku's battle with Vegeta is concluding.

Frieza Saga[edit | edit source]

Appule is dispatched to Namek as part of Frieza's search for the Dragon Balls and reports any findings of Namekian villages. He arrives at Moori's village with other members of the raiding group, where he initially watches his comrades fight before joining the battle himself. Appule is knocked away by a Namekian, but he survives the battle along with Dodoria and Zarbon. Later, he discovers the destroyed Namekian village of Tsuno, reporting back to Frieza. He is then tasked with overseeing Vegeta's recovery. However, Vegeta escapes from the Medical Machine and kills Appule with a single energy blast.

Dragon Ball GT[edit | edit source]

Super 17 Saga[edit | edit source]

Appule makes a cameo appearance in Dragon Ball GT when he escapes from Hell alongside Raspberry and other Frieza Force soldiers to attack a city, where they are ultimately defeated by Trunks.

Xenoverse[edit | edit source]

In the GT Pack 1 DLC, Appule and Raspberry escape from Hell in the GT Timeline and attack the West City suburbs, only to be confronted by the Future Warrior. Appule, recognizing the warrior's strength, realizes that they are outmatched and fears they will be killed and sent back to Hell.

Xenoverse 2[edit | edit source]

Frieza's Siege[edit | edit source]

Appule invades Conton City with the rest of the Frieza Force. He mistakenly believes the Future Warrior has betrayed them, unaware that they were actually an undercover Time Patroller.

Dragon Ball Legends[edit | edit source]

During the Tournament of Time, multiple incarnations of Appule appear due to the tournament's hyperdimensional nature. He is one of the few soldiers who remain loyal to Frieza after most of the Frieza Force is convinced that Frieza is a fake.

Appule teams up with Shallot after they form an alliance with Frieza to rescue the kidnapped Bulma (Youth). During a mission to find new recruits, he is taunted by a rogue faction but is saved by Shallot. Appule expresses that all Saiyans look the same to him and notes that Shallot seems to call all members of his race "Appule," to which Shallot humorously agrees.

Appule manages to recruit Android 19, but the android turns out to be a spy for Turles and Dr. Gero, who are aligned with the rogue faction. Despite their efforts, Frieza kills Appule for his mistake, enraging Shallot to the point of confronting Frieza, though he is ultimately reminded of his mission to save Bulma.

Ironically, after helping Frieza regain control of his army by eliminating Frost, a usurper from Universe 6, Frieza allies himself with Dr. Gero and Turles and sends his men to hunt down the three Saiyans. This leads to a confrontation where Super Saiyan Shallot kills Frieza, avenging both Vegeta and Appule's deaths. However, Shallot encounters more incarnations of Appule afterward.

  • Appule's skin color varies throughout the series; at some stages, he appears with light purple or light blue skin, while in others, he is depicted with a pure purple color.
  • In Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Appule's biography incorrectly states that he injured Vegeta, when in reality, it was the transformed Zarbon who did so.
  • Appule, or a character similar to him, appears twice in crossover events with the manga KochiKame. In volume 63 of the KochiKame manga, the main character, Ryotsu Kankichi, is thrown into the Namek Saga after making a joke about renaming the series "KochiKame Z," where he meets Frieza, Zarbon, and Appule. In the Dragon Ball chapter of the Chō KochiKame crossover manga, Appule and Frieza are seen waiting for the three remaining Namekian Dragon Balls when Ryotsu arrives and claims that Frieza has parked his spaceship illegally. After several failed attempts to kill Ryotsu, Appule realizes that Ryotsu is a gag manga character who cannot die, leading Frieza and Appule to return to their spaceship and leave.
