- Sidra describes Bergamo as a smooth talker, capable of winning over deities, as shown when he convinces Zeno and Future Zeno to consider rescinding their plan to destroy lower-level universes if he wins his fight.
- Despite his respectful nature, Whis points out that Bergamo's plan to turn the gods against Goku was a clever and underhanded move.
- Bergamo shows great responsibility and care for his universe, taking its fate on his shoulders during the Tournament of Power.
- In the manga, he shows humility when cornered by Piccolo, asking for mercy and hoping to find a way for both their universes to survive.
Bergamo stands out as a fighter who balances ego with honor and respect, even leaving an impression on deities with his calculated and respectful demeanor.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In Dragon Ball Super's Universe Survival Saga, Bergamo, along with his brothers Lavender and Basil, is selected to participate in the Zeno Expo as part of Universe 9's team. This exhibition is held as a prelude to the Tournament of Power. Team Universe 9 faces off against Team Universe 7, and before the matches, Bergamo greets his opponents with confidence, observing his brother Basil's fight against Majin Buu. Impressed by Buu's strange abilities, Bergamo acknowledges Goku's potential when Goku states that Buu won't be satisfied until Basil shows his full strength.
During Lavender's battle with Gohan, Bergamo recognizes Gohan's ability to fight despite being blinded by poison and acknowledges him as a worthy opponent. Before Bergamo's fight with Goku, it is revealed that the losing universes in the Tournament of Power will be erased. Bergamo seizes this opportunity to make a proposal to Zeno and Future Zeno: if he defeats Goku, no universes will be destroyed, and the Tournament of Power will end without any casualties. To everyone's surprise, the Zenos agree to his proposition, but they warn Goku not to hold back.
When the battle begins, Bergamo initially holds his own against Goku in close-quarters combat. He soon reveals his special ability, the Crusher Ability, which allows him to grow stronger by absorbing the power of his opponent's attacks. Goku obliges by attacking him, causing Bergamo to grow larger and stronger, eventually overwhelming Goku. However, Goku, now in his Super Saiyan form, takes advantage of Bergamo's increasing size, which makes him slower and more vulnerable.
Goku then transforms into Super Saiyan Blue, stunning the onlookers with his godly power, and further powers up using Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken. Despite Bergamo's confidence, Goku charges a God Kamehameha, which Bergamo counters with his Wolfgang Penetrator. An intense energy clash ensues, but Goku ultimately overpowers Bergamo, winning the battle.
After his defeat, Bergamo, carried off by his brothers, furiously declares that every universe will now target Goku, and promises that Universe 7 will be the first to be erased.
During the 40-hour preparation period before the Tournament of Power, Universe 9, particularly Bergamo and his brothers Lavender and Basil, faced difficulties in assembling their team. Due to the looming threat of universal erasure, many of Universe 9's inhabitants were in a state of panic, attempting to flee to other universes, which resulted in chaos and revolts. Bergamo and his brothers apologized to Mojito, their universe's Angel, for the trouble. In response to the unrest, Sidra, the God of Destruction for Universe 9, used his Hakai technique to destroy a nearby city.
Once the Grand Priest completed the stage for the tournament, Team Universe 9 was one of the first to arrive. Bergamo stood with his teammates in silence as they awaited the other universes. Later, as all participants were introduced by the Grand Minister, Bergamo and his team listened to the rules once again. During this time, Frieza commented on the heightened aggression, specifically referring to the Trio of Danger.
When the Tournament of Power officially began, Bergamo, Lavender, and Basil were among the first fighters to charge into battle. After Goku eliminated Nink, Bergamo led his brothers, along with Chappil and Sorrel, in a coordinated assault against Goku. The Trio of Danger teamed up to fight Goku, with Bergamo engaging him in close combat. They used great coordination to outnumber Goku and attack him relentlessly. However, Goku activated his Ki Body Barrier, which nullified Lavender's poison and likely prevented Bergamo from absorbing Goku's attacks to increase his strength, as he had done during the Zen Exhibition Match.
Despite their initial advantage, Goku managed to keep up with their coordinated attacks, and Vegeta soon arrived to assist. Roh, Universe 9's Supreme Kai, called upon the rest of their team to help overwhelm Goku and Vegeta. Even though Universe 9 outnumbered the two Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta held their ground. Eventually, Universe 9's coordination began to falter due to overconfidence. Vegeta took advantage of this and caught Lavender and Hop off guard, while Goku quickly eliminated Chappil and Comfrey, further weakening Universe 9's team.
After most of Universe 9's members were eliminated by Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, and Android 18, Bergamo and his brothers made one final stand against the Saiyans. They were pushed near the edge of the stage by the immense power and skill of Goku and Vegeta, who had transformed into Super Saiyan Blue. In a last-ditch effort, Bergamo, Lavender, and Basil combined their powers to launch the Triangle Danger Beam at the Saiyans. However, Goku and Vegeta countered with their combined God Final Kamehameha, easily overpowering the Trio of Danger and knocking them out of the tournament stage.
With the defeat of all ten members of Team Universe 9, the Grand Minister announced that Universe 9 was out of the tournament and would be erased. Both Zeno and Future Zeno agreed, and Bergamo, his brothers, their God of Destruction Sidra, Supreme Kai Roh, and the rest of their universe were quickly erased while unconscious. This erasure shocked all the other universes, leaving them in awe and fear of the consequences of losing.
In the manga, Bergamo and his brothers, alongside the rest of Team Universe 9, participated in the Tournament of Power. Early on, the Trio of Danger faced off against Team Universe 3's Pancéa, Koitsukai, and Narirama. The trio later attacked Gohan, using their teamwork to gain the upper hand. However, when Gohan saw Piccolo in trouble, he knocked the trio away with an explosive wave. The trio regrouped with their team to face Gohan and Piccolo, but Frost interrupted, eliminating the rest of Team Universe 9 except for the Trio of Danger, who retreated.
Bergamo and his brothers launched another attack on Gohan and Piccolo, with Bergamo specifically targeting Piccolo. However, Piccolo quickly defeated Bergamo, while Frieza eliminated Lavender and Basil, leaving Bergamo as the last member of Universe 9 on the stage. Bergamo attempted to reason with Piccolo but was ultimately eliminated by Frieza, leading to the erasure of Universe 9.
Bergamo and the rest of Universe 9 were later revived when Android 17 used the Super Dragon Balls to restore all the erased universes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Bergamo's name is a pun on Bergamot, a culinary herb from the Lamiaceae family, also known as the Monarda flower. It is also the name of a city in Italy.
- Prior to his fighting debut, Bergamo's character and abilities were mixed up with Lavender's in some supplemental material, where Lavender was mistakenly referred to as the eldest brother and Bergamo as the middle one. Bergamo was also referred to as "Poison Bergamo" and was stated to use poison, which is actually Lavender's ability.
- Bergamo's words often backfire, as events tend to unfold in the opposite way of his statements or vows.
- According to Bergamo, his power absorption ability is limitless. However, he shrinks back to normal after being defeated by Goku, possibly because he was hit with godly energy, which he might not be able to absorb.
- At the end of the Zeno Expo match, Bergamo claimed Universe 7 would be the first universe erased, but it was Universe 9 that ended up being erased first.
- When Bergamo uses his Crusher Ability to absorb Goku's attacks, not only does he grow larger, but his scarf and clothes also increase in size along with him.
- Bergamo's Crusher Ability is similar to the energy absorption techniques of Super 17 and Yakon, though it may also demonstrate the principle of negative feedback, where absorbing more power makes him more vulnerable to attacks.
- Bergamo's design is based on Zangetsu, a card from an arcade game.
- He shares similarities with Fenrir from Norse mythology, as both are wolves capable of increasing their size and power.
