Yamu

Yamu (ヤムー Yamū) is a fighter in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and the partner of Spopovich. Both fighters were placed under the control of the evil wizard Babidi to serve his purposes.

Appearance

Before falling under Babidi's Manipulation Sorcery, Yamu was a normal Earthling. Babidi's control changed his appearance drastically, making him look unnaturally pale and brutish, while also granting him supernatural powers. Although not as large as his partner Spopovich, Yamu still has considerable muscle mass.

Personality

Yamu appears more intelligent and composed than Spopovich, demonstrating a greater ability to control his power. In the Japanese version, he retains some of his humanity, showing visible disgust and sadness at Spopovich's near-torture of Videl, and expressing horror when Babidi executes his partner. In the English dub, Yamu's plea for Spopovich to spare Videl sounds more like a pragmatic concern to complete their mission for Babidi than an act of compassion.

Biography

Dragon Ball Z - Majin Buu Saga

Yamu is paired with Spopovich and sent by Babidi to the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament to collect energy needed to awaken Majin Buu. When Spopovich is on the verge of killing Videl, Yamu angrily intervenes, reminding him in a sorrowful tone (especially evident in the Japanese version) that "This isn't what we came here to do; ring out the girl and finish this match."

Later, Yamu and Spopovich wait for Kibito and Shin to ask Gohan to transform into a Super Saiyan 2. Once Gohan complies, Yamu and Spopovich use the Energy-Suction Device to drain all of Gohan's energy, with Shin paralyzing Gohan to allow the duo to gather the energy and unknowingly lead Shin and the Dragon Team back to Babidi. Upon delivering the collected energy to Babidi, the wizard deems Spopovich no longer useful and kills him. Yamu attempts to flee in fear but is quickly killed by Pui Pui.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes - Supreme Kai of Time Saga

An incarnation of Yamu appears in the Super Space-Time Tournament, along with Dabura, Pui Pui, Spopovich, Yakon, and two unknown members. In the manga, Yamu, Spopovich, and Yakon team up with Commander Zeeun, Wings, Angila, Recoome, Jeice, and Guldo to battle Yamcha, but Jiren defeats them all with a single blow. Due to their failure to advance to the second round, Yamu and his space-time are erased.

Dokkan Battle

Quest Mode

In Dokkan Battle, Spopovich and Yamu are under Babidi's control, tasked with gathering energy to revive Pure Majin Buu in the dimensionally distorted Age ???. Due to this distortion, Grand Supreme Kai and South Supreme Kai were never absorbed into this timeline. Spopovich and Yamu attack Future Trunks and his unseen Time Patroller partner (the player) while they are en route to Dr. Gero's Lab but are defeated and forced to retreat.

Later, Future Trunks and his partner learn that Grand Supreme Kai has arrived on Earth to seek help from the Dragon Team and King Kai's Time Patrol (a group formed at King Kai's request to investigate the dimensional distortion) to prevent the revival of Kid Buu. Eventually, they track down Spopovich and Yamu and follow them back to Babidi's spaceship, where they face off against Spopovich, Yamu, and Pui Pui. Although they manage to defeat them, Kid Buu is revived and absorbs Grand Supreme Kai, transforming into a weaker version of Innocent Buu.

Go Forth! Hero of Justice

In the Story Event Go Forth! Hero of Justice, the dimensional distortion in Age ??? causes various villains, including Spopovich and Yamu, to invade Satan City as part of the Organization of Babidi. Fortunately, the Saiya Squad, consisting of Adult Gohan and Videl as their superhero alter-egos, Great Saiyaman 1 and 2, intervene to protect Mr. Satan from Spopovich and Yamu. Unlike their encounters in the main series, Gohan and Videl manage to defeat the pair. After their defeat, Mr. Satan acknowledges Great Saiyaman's strength but humorously claims that Great Saiyaman is still weaker than himself to save face.

Attacks/Techniques

• Flight – The ability to fly with the use of ki, after being put under Babidi's spell.
• Ki Blast – Yamu is able to perform ki blasts in Dragon Ball Heroes and Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission.
• Energy Drain - A Energy Absorption technique where Yamu stabs the opponent with his Energy Absorber and drains their energy to inflict damage. His Super Attack in Dragon Ball Heroes, World Mission, and Dokkan Battle.
  • Majin Buu Resurrection – First, Spopovich charges at the opponent and back hand punches them away. Then, he flies after the opponent and again back hand punches the opponent away. Next, he shouts "I win!", as Yamu appears and the two chase after the opponent. Spopovich grabs the opponent by the neck, and Yamu stabs and drains health with an Energy Absorber. When finished, Yamu takes the energy container out of the opponent and flies off as Spopovich lets go and stomps the opponent down into the ground, inflicting very painful damage.

Trivia

• Yamu's name may be a pun on several Japanese words: 止む (yamu), meaning "to stop"; 病む (yamu), meaning "to be ill"; or ヤム (yamu), referring to the vegetable yam.
• Spopovich and Yamu share notable similarities with Nappa and Vegeta. Nappa and Spopovich are both bald, large, muscular fighters who take pleasure in tormenting their opponents—Spopovich toying with Videl at the tournament parallels Nappa's taunting of the Z Fighters. Similarly, Yamu, like Vegeta, attempts to control his partner's behavior; Yamu prevents Spopovich from killing Videl at the tournament, while Vegeta gives the Z Fighters time to wait for Goku. Also, like Vegeta, Yamu appears to be the stronger, smaller, and more pragmatic of the two. Interestingly, in the Ocean dub, Yamu and Spopovich are voiced by Brian Drummond and Michael Dobson, who also voiced Vegeta and Nappa, respectively.
• Unlike Spopovich, whose normal human appearance during the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament is shown in a flashback, Yamu's appearance before being placed under Babidi's control remains unknown.
