Cumber (カンバー Kanbā), the Evil Saiyan (のサイヤ Aku no Saiya-jin) is an antagonist introduced in Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission. He is an immensely powerful and evil Saiyan who was imprisoned by Fu on the Prison Planet. Cumber's character exudes intense malevolence, and his sheer strength and fighting abilities pose a significant threat to the Dragon Team throughout the series. He is implied to have existed during the era of the original Super Saiyan God and may have been one of the evil Saiyans who fought against him.

Appearance

Cumber is a very muscular man of towering height. He has long spiky black hair reaching down to his thighs with a single shorter bang hanging over his face. Unlike most Saiyans with pitch-black irises, he has red-irises and visible pupils. He also retains a Universe 7 Saiyan tail, which unlike most adult Saiyans, he lets sway freely. While restrained by Fu, he wears a Restraint Jacket with Fu's mark on its chest area, which also seemingly blanks out his eyes.

Once he frees himself from his restraints, his outfit is shown to be a red sleeveless shirt with blue baggy pants and white boots. Though he continues to wear a piece of the straitjacket that covers his mouth, a piece from the left side is shown missing, which reveals a small scar from the left side of his jawline. His attire also appears to be made of similar material to Saiyan armor, as it can stretch and retain its integrity even at Great Ape size.

Personality

Cumber embodies all the battle characteristics of a Saiyan - violence, savagery, and an extreme desire to fight anyone he comes across. He has a tendency to demand battle with strong opponents no matter the scenario, even when on the losing end of a fight he's already in, such as when he was hit by Cooler's strongest attack and fell unconscious right after. He appears to have history with the Super Saiyan God form and may be an ancient Saiyan from an era where he fought against the heroic Saiyans, as evidenced when he became angry upon seeing Goku manifest the form.

Cumber's battle lust establishes a level of respect for opponents who can match or exceed him in power, especially other Saiyans. Upon preparing to fight Goku and Vegeta, he admitted to having some respect for them, and when battling Vegito Blue, he declared that destroying him would bring him joy. When Vegeta overcame and controlled the Evil Aura, Cumber was pleased that the prince had made the power his own. Against Broly, he expressed great excitement at being met with a destructive equal.

Strangely, Cumber seems to hold no grudge against Hearts, despite the God Slayer using him for his own gains. Instead, Cumber might actually have some form of begrudging respect for Hearts, as during the Super Space-Time Tournament, after Frieza mockingly comments that his 'friend' is gone upon Aeos teleporting Hearts away, Cumber simply looks away and scoffs.

Despite being known as the Evil Saiyan due to his unique aura, Cumber may not actually be a truly malevolent individual, since he was not affected by Demigra's dark control over the gathered villains during the Supreme Kai of Time Saga.

Biography

Background

Cumber is an ancient Saiyan who was removed from his original timeline by Fu and placed in the Core Area of the Prison Planet. He is kept restrained by a straitjacket and holds a Special Dragon Ball. Fu captures Cumber to study and experiment on his unique "Evil Aura."

Cumber seems to harbor a deep grudge against the Super Saiyan God form, reacting with agitation upon seeing Goku transform into Super Saiyan God for the first time. This suggests Cumber had a history of conflict with the original Super Saiyan God.

In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes arcade game, it is revealed that Fu used the Dragon Balls to summon Cumber, allowing him to manipulate the powerful Saiyan for his plans.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes

Prison Planet Saga

In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime, Cumber breaks free from his imprisonment inside a lava-surrounded tower on the Prison Planet. Both the anime and manga depict him immediately attacking Goku and Vegeta. Goku’s attempt to fight Cumber backfired when Cumber’s evil ki corrupted Goku’s mind, forcing him into a berserk state, causing Goku to turn against Vegeta. Future Trunks and Cooler arrive to aid Goku and Vegeta. Cooler, in his Golden form, knocks out Goku and throws a Golden Supernova at Cumber, but it fails to hurt him.

Cumber powers up, breaking free from his restraints, and demands that his enemies fight him. He nearly kills Trunks with a powerful attack before being interrupted by Vegito Blue, who deflects the blast. Their battle excites Fu, who watches from his monitor room. Cumber uses his Désastre Claw against Vegito but misses before eventually landing a powerful blow. Vegito powers up with Kaio-ken, and the intensity of their fight begins to damage the chains holding the Prison Planet.

Cumber charges a giant Désastre Eraser to overwhelm Vegito, but Vegito counters with a Final Kamehameha. Despite Cumber's attack gaining the upper hand, Vegito puts more power into his attack, dispersing Cumber's blast and breaking part of the Prison Planet's chains. Cumber retaliates with another Désastre Claw, forcing Vegito to defuse into Goku and Vegeta. Cumber then transforms into a Golden Great Ape, launching a new Désastre Eraser, leaving Goku and Vegeta severely weakened.

In the manga, Cumber breaks free after reacting violently to Goku's Super Saiyan God form, and Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegito Blue to combat him.

Cumber continues his intense battle against Vegito, taking on his Super Saiyan form. Vegito, using the Kaio-ken, gains the upper hand temporarily, but Cumber responds by transforming into a Golden Great Ape. Their fierce clash results in Vegito defusing due to the immense strain of Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken. As the situation escalates, Fu intervenes, transforming into Super Fu. He slices off Cumber's tail, reverting him to his base form.

In the anime, Goku and Vegeta, now defused, must face Cumber again, though he has only lost a piece of his mask. Cumber continues his onslaught, easily overpowering Super Saiyan Vegeta, Trunks, and Golden Cooler. Despite Goku using both Super Saiyan Blue and Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken, Cumber's relentless attacks break through the planet's barrier. The battle halts briefly when Fu arrives and, after transforming into Super Fu, absorbs Cumber’s Power Ball and knocks him out of his Great Ape form.

However, Cumber remains enraged, especially upon seeing Goku use the Super Saiyan God transformation. He fights Goku, overwhelming him and nearly defeating him. Just before finishing Goku, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta arrive in their Super Saiyan 4 forms. Cumber doesn't recognize them but is eager to fight. As he powers up to Super Saiyan 3, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta fuse into Super Saiyan 4 Xeno Vegito.

Xeno Vegito and Cumber engage in a ferocious battle, destroying more of the Prison Planet’s chains. Despite Cumber’s strength, Xeno Vegito gains the upper hand, pushing Cumber into the final chain, which shatters, breaking the seal on the Prison Planet.

In both the anime and manga, Cumber isn’t done yet. He launches a powerful energy attack, overwhelming Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta. However, Goku, in his newly achieved Perfected Ultra Instinct form, arrives and deflects the blast. Cumber fails to land a blow on Goku and is finally defeated by Goku’s powerful Kamehameha. Before the Prison Planet explodes, Fused Zamasu suddenly rescues Cumber and teleports him away.

In the manga, the story follows a similar arc, but it concludes with Ultra Instinct Goku stepping in to battle Cumber after he overpowers Super Saiyan 4 Xeno Vegito. As their beams clash, the Prison Planet begins to vanish, leaving their fates uncertain.

Universal Conflict Saga

In the manga, after the events on the Prison Planet, the injured Cumber is retrieved by the Core Area Warriors. Lagss, one of the warriors, uses her Glassification ability to restore Cumber to full health.

In the anime, Cumber heads to Universe 11, where he engages in a battle with Toppo, the leader of the Pride Troopers, and emerges victorious. He then prepares to face Jiren, one of the mightiest warriors of Universe 11. The two engage in a brief but intense skirmish, during which Cumber admits that Jiren is his equal in power. However, Cumber declares that he will not lose and transforms into Super Saiyan 3 Full Power, but despite this, he is outmatched by Jiren. Their fight is interrupted by Hearts, who orders Oren to battle Jiren instead. Cumber is furious at the interruption, but Hearts believes Cumber has done enough and teleports him to Universe 3 against his will.

In the manga, after being restored, Cumber is also sent to Universe 11, where he faces off against Toppo and Dyspo. In his Super Saiyan 3 form, Cumber manages to gain the upper hand over the two Pride Troopers, forcing Toppo to transform into his Destroyer Form. However, both he and Toppo are ultimately taken down in a single strike by Kamioren, who intervenes in the fight. After Kamioren's defeat by Jiren, a heavily injured Cumber struggles to his feet and demands another fight with Jiren, only to be taken away by a Time-Space Portal against his will.

In Universe 3 (anime), Cumber inadvertently saves Lagss from Meta-Cooler by transforming into Super Saiyan 3. Initially, their battle appears evenly matched, with Cumber mocking Cooler for turning himself into a machine. However, Cooler reveals that he has gained new power and transforms into Golden Meta-Cooler, quickly gaining the upper hand. Cooler’s newfound strength makes Cumber's attacks ineffective, and Cumber is soon overpowered. Cooler launches three Supernovas at Cumber, but overheats and is forced to retreat. Cumber, although gravely injured, survives the attack but soon collapses unconscious.

In the manga, Cumber arrives in a cavern where he is contacted by Fu, who sends Meta-Cooler to face him. Cooler transforms into Golden Meta-Cooler and, despite Cumber’s weakened state, does not hold back. Cumber responds by transforming into Super Saiyan, but Cooler quickly gains the upper hand, inflicting serious damage with a Death Beam. Cooler then forms a quadruple Golden Super Nova and hurls it at Cumber. In response, Cumber powers up to Super Saiyan 3, tearing off his mask and surviving the attack. As Cooler leaves, Cumber reverts to his base form and collapses, faintly demanding Cooler continue the fight before losing consciousness. Fu congratulates Cooler on his victory and commends Cumber for his resilience, though he deems the Saiyan retired from his plans.

Universe Creation Saga

In the anime, Cumber appears after being recaptured by Fu. Once again restrained by his power-sealing straitjacket, Cumber is placed inside a tank designed to drain his dark ki, which Fu uses for his own purposes. While trapped, Cumber exchanges a glance with Hearts when the latter looks at his tank.

New Space-Time War Saga

In this arc, Cumber reemerges in the New Space-Time after being freed from Fu's siphoning tank. In the manga, he appears in his Super Saiyan 3 Full Power form, battling Vegeta alongside Turles, with all three fighters already severely injured.

In the anime, Cumber is initially shown in his base form, preparing to face Vegeta, with Turles also present. As the battle escalates, Super Saiyan 3 Full Power Cumber clashes with Turles, the two of them wielding their Evil Auras against each other. The fight continues until Vegeta gets involved and is inflicted by the Evil Aura. However, Vegeta manages to overcome the dark energy, gaining control of his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Berserk) form.

At this point, Cumber finds himself overwhelmed by Vegeta's newfound power. After taking a devastating Galick Gun from Vegeta, which shatters his mask, Cumber expresses amazement at Vegeta's ability to harness and control the Evil Aura. He refers to Vegeta as a comrade before falling unconscious, smiling as he goes down. In the manga, Cumber is knocked out with a single punch instead.

Later, Cumber's unconscious body is saved from the destruction of the pseudo–Planet Vegeta by Hearts, who, along with Cell, teleports them off the planet.

In West City, Cumber arrives and uses his Super Saiyan 3 Full Power transformation, notably without the Evil Aura. He engages in battle with Omega Shenron, who has been summoned by the Crimson-Masked Saiyan from a corrupted Scroll of Eternity. Super Hearts joins Cumber in the fight against Omega, but the battle is cut short when Crimson is defeated by Gogeta, causing Omega to disappear.

In the manga, Cumber arrives to save the Demon Gods from Omega Shenron, demanding a fight. Initially, they seem evenly matched, but Cumber transforms into a Super Saiyan. Omega Shenron responds by launching a powerful attack, causing Cumber to fly into a fit of uncontrollable rage. Cumber then ascends to his Super Saiyan 3 Full Power form and brutally kills Omega Shenron. In his berserk state, Cumber turns his attention to the Demon Gods. At this point, Goku and Vegeta reappear in the Pseudo Universe, witnessing Cumber's rampage. They intervene, with Vegeta transforming into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Berserk Controlled) and Goku into Perfected Ultra Instinct. The two easily overpower Cumber, who is eventually restrained by Hearts using a Gravity Cage.

Later, Cumber holds off Broly under Hearts' command, buying time for Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, Goku, and Vegeta to confront Dark Fu. The fight ends with Broly kicking Cumber into the Universe Tree.

Supreme Kai of Time Saga

Cumber reappears as one of the competitors in the Super Space-Time Tournament. In the anime, when Dark King Demigra empowers his summoned warriors from the time scrolls, Hearts and Cumber arrive at the Namek arena to assist Gohan.

Standard Equipment: Wore a restrained straightjacket early on in Prison Planet Saga, but broke and discarded it shortly afterwards.

Weaknesses: Restrained Jacket limited his movement and have a seal which weakening his power (Restrained Cumber only). He is a battle maniac who will always jump straight into battle to satisfy his desire for a good fight

Attacks and Techniques

• Floating Shadow Hands - As Cumber's arms are inside his straitjacket as the Evil Saiyan, he uses two large shadow hands separate from his body. He is still able to use these hands once freeing himself from the straitjacket.
  • Désastre Claw - Cumber enlarges one of his shadow hands into a massive claw and attacks with it. This is Cumber's super attack as "Evil Saiyan".
• Evil Aura - As the Evil Saiyan, Cumber's Evil Aura has a corrupting effect on fellow Saiyans. This caused Goku to become Super Saiyan (Berserk) and made Vegeta note that they may not be able to beat Cumber with strength alone.
• Désastre Eraser - Cumber creates his shadows hands, using them in addition to his actual hands. Each hand creates a ball of dark ki before combining the four into a larger sphere, firing it as a powerful energy wave afterward.
  • Hard Désastre Eraser - A stronger variation of Désastre Eraser used by Cumber in his Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 3 Full Power forms.
• Désastre Compress - A stronger variation of the Crushing in Hands used in his Golden Great Ape form.
• Savage Tyrant - After revealing his two arms of dark energy to the enemy, he catches and raises him. Then, he creates an energy sphere in his right hand before firing it as a powerful energy wave.
  • Full Power Energy Wave - A Gigantic Red and Black Energy Wave fired by a single hand.
• Power Ball - Cumber is able to create a power ball, allowing him to channel Blutz Waves and take on the Great Ape transformations.

• Shadow tail growth - During the time he was without his tail, Cumber proves able to grow a replacement made out of his shadowy energy, allowing him to regain the power he lost from losing his tail.
• Mouth Energy Wave - Cumber is able to use a Powerful Black and Red Mouth Energy Wave while in his Golden Great Ape transformation.
• Bringer of Ruination (全てを破壊する者) - An ability used by Evil Saiyan as a boss during the Prison Planet Saga that reduces the enemy team's Power by 3000 each time he wins a Charge Impact, as well as reducing the enemy team's Guard by 3000 if he gets a Perfect CI.
• Evil Aura (邪悪なるオーラ) - An ability used by Evil Saiyan as a boss during the Prison Planet Saga that reduces the Power Level growth of the enemy team to 10% of its normal rate and prevents them from increasing Hero Energy by any other means.
• Fierce Stare-Down (ただならぬ威圧) - An ability used by Evil Saiyan as a boss during the Prison Planet Saga that increases the enemy's Charge Impact speed on a round where his team wins the Power Level Battle Phase while he is an attacker.
• Incarnation of Evil (悪の化身) - An ability used by Evil Saiyan's UM2-SEC3 card that prevents him from being stunned, but also renders him unable to join co-op attacks. The ability permanently doubles the damage of his attacks and reduces the enemy team's Hero Energy to 0 if he wins a Charge Impact while the enemy team has at least 8 Hero Energy.

Trivia

• In a flashback from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, there is a depiction of an evil Saiyan in their Great Ape form. Given that Cumber is an ancient evil Saiyan who reacts negatively to the Super Saiyan God form, it is possible he was one of the evil Saiyans who fought the Super Saiyan God mentioned by Shenron.
• Like other Saiyan names, Cumber’s name is a pun on a vegetable—specifically, cucumber. While cucumbers are technically fruits botanically, they are classified as culinary vegetables, similar to tomatoes.
• Unlike other Saiyans who speak their attacks in English, Cumber's attacks are delivered in French.
• Cumber shares several traits with Broly (from Dragon Ball Z):
  • Towering height and a massive muscular build (similar to Broly's Legendary Super Saiyan form).
