Shroom (シュルム, Shurumu), also known as Demon God Shroom (魔神シュルム, Majin Shurumu), is a Demon God of the Dark Empire who served Mechikabura as the empire's Grim Reaper. He later absorbs Salsa's soul using his special Potara earrings, merging into Shroosa (シュルサ) in honor of his ally. However, the fusion ends before the Super Space-Time Tournament.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Shroom resembles a teenage demon with light purple skin, red eyes with yellow sclera, and shadow-like trim. His spiky silver hair is held up by a maroon bandana, leaving a single bang protruding forward. Unlike most demons, his ears are rounded and adorned with blue Potara earrings. He wears a black caped vest with yellow spikes, black pants, boots, and a maroon sash. Shroom also dons golden arm bracelets featuring red Potara and wields a black scythe as his primary weapon.

Personality[edit | edit source]

As the Grim Reaper of the Dark Empire, Shroom is known for his unhinged nature, even killing his own henchmen if it means striking his opponent. He dismisses concepts like friendship as nonsense and isn't fond of teleportation, often calling Gravy "old man." His loyalty to Mechikabura is stronger than most of the other Demon Gods, as he sides with Mechikabura during the Dark Empire's split, unlike others. However, after being absorbed by Mechikabura and surviving, Shroom's attitude shifts—he only seeks to revive Mechikabura so he can crush him for using him.

In the anime, after losing his Demon God powers, Shroom becomes more serious, helping Goku and his allies take down the Crimson-Masked Saiyan. In the manga, he retains his carefree attitude. After fusing with Salsa and becoming Shroosa, Shroom unexpectedly adopts some of Salsa's more honorable traits, much to his surprise.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Super Dragon Ball Heroes[edit | edit source]

Dark Empire Saga[edit | edit source]

In the manga, during an alternate version of Age 774, Towa appears in Hell alongside Grim Reaper Shroom to retrieve the Five-Star Dark Dragon Ball from Xeno Janemba. Shroom easily overpowers that timeline's Goku before summoning a Reaper Soldier from a portal to attack Janemba. When Janemba tries to counter with a kick, the soldier grabs his leg, allowing Shroom to cut through both with one swing of his scythe. However, Janemba re-materializes, now stronger due to the Dark Dragon Ball.

Shroom personally engages Janemba again, and though Janemba initially holds his own, he is ultimately sliced in half once more, causing the Dark Dragon Ball to fall to the ground. Before Towa can claim it, Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, and Chamel appear, with Chamel vowing to destroy Towa and Shroom for their actions. Towa notes Chamel's betrayal, and he directs Goku and Vegeta to battle Shroom while he handles Towa.

Goku and Vegeta struggle against Shroom, their souls weakened by Shroom's special ability to mow down spirits. Desperate, the two Saiyans fuse into Xeno Gogeta and transform into a Super Saiyan, challenging Shroom once more. Although the fight is evenly matched, it is interrupted when Xeno Gogeta defuses. Xeno Goku then escapes through a portal leading to the Dark Empire, while Xeno Vegeta holds Shroom off.

Shroom reappears alongside the other Demon Gods when Mechikabura uses Dark Shenron to restore his youth. Shroom tries to buy time for his master by holding off the Time Patrol and briefly battles Super Saiyan Xeno Goten in the manga.

Dark King Mechikabura Saga[edit | edit source]

After Mechikabura escapes the Time Labyrinth, Shroom and the other demons are granted more powerful Demon God forms.

While maintaining the barrier around Mechikabura's Palace, Shroom encounters Xeno Gohan, who, along with Xeno Pan, passes through the Black Hell Gate to confront him. Shroom attacks with an energy wave from his scythe, and although Xeno Gohan manages to save Xeno Pan, he berates her for being a distraction, leading her to flee in tears. Xeno Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan and engages Shroom, landing a kick that knocks Shroom to the ground. However, Gohan soon notices a small cut on his face and realizes that Shroom has harvested some of his spirit. Weakened, Xeno Gohan reverts to his base form and falls.

As Shroom prepares to finish Gohan off, Xeno Pan returns and blasts him, encouraging her father to rise again. Shroom advances toward Pan but is grabbed by Gohan, who has transformed into Super Saiyan 4. Gohan knocks Shroom down, and when Shroom throws his scythe at Xeno Pan, Gohan deflects it and counters with a powerful Kamehameha, defeating Shroom.

Later, Mechikabura summons Shroom and the other Demon Gods, who are still injured from their earlier battles. Mechikabura traps them inside a black orb, absorbing it to attain his Time Power Unleashed form. Despite this, Shroom, like Salsa and Putine, survives when Super Saiyan God Xeno Trunks shatters Mechikabura's armor.

In the game, Shroom guards the final Hell Gate of Mechikabura's Tower alongside Dr. Gero, Dr. Myuu, Android 17, and Hell Fighter 17. He battles Xeno Goten but fails to stop him from sealing the gate. Shroom later fights the Time Patrol with the other Demon Gods and Fin, but Towa recalls them to Mechikabura's Tower.

Shroom and Salsa are the only two Demon Gods who remain loyal to Mechikabura after he absorbs everything into his black hole. They battle Xeno King Vegeta and Xeno Bardock but are forced into their true Dark Forms by Mechikabura. Despite this, they are ultimately defeated and seemingly perish due to the strain of using the Dark Form.

New Space-Time War Saga[edit | edit source]

In the anime, following Mechikabura's defeat, Shroom, like Salsa and Putine, loses his Demon God powers but survives. He reappears alongside them to assist Goku and Vegeta in the Pseudo Universe. Together with Salsa and Putine, Shroom combines their magic to transport Goku and Vegeta to a space resembling the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, allowing the Saiyans to refine their Perfected Ultra Instinct and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Berserk Controlled) forms.

In the manga, Shroom and the other former Demon Gods (excluding Chamel) maintain the mock Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Shroom warns Putine not to lose focus, as doing so would close the gate and destroy Goku and Vegeta inside. Putine jokes about letting them be destroyed, to which Shroom laughs, finding the idea amusing. Chamel scolds them, reminding them that they need the Saiyans alive to defeat Fu and retrieve the Dark Factor, which would benefit them. Shroom agrees but declares his intention to revive and crush Mechikabura for using him, angering Salsa. The two argue, with Shroom calling Salsa a "submissive mutt."

Their bickering is interrupted when the Crimson-Masked Saiyan unleashes his power, causing cracks in space-time. Before they can react, they are attacked by Omega Shenron, who emerges from one of the cracks. Shroom is excited by the prospect of hunting Omega's soul but gets distracted by sensing other ki signatures, chasing after them instead and leaving Salsa to defend Chamel and Putine.

Shroom later returns with Hearts' group, only to find the battle has already ended, which irritates him slightly. Eventually, Fu forces Salsa, along with Towa and Mira, back into the Pseudo Universe. Amused, Shroom watches as Mira beats up Salsa, offering Salsa a chance to fuse with him via his Potara. Salsa agrees, and the two merge into "Shroosa."

Supreme Kai of Time Saga[edit | edit source]

In the anime, when Dark King Demigra releases evil beings from the Scrolls of Eternity, Shroom appears alongside Salsa, Putine, Gravy, and Xeno Dabura to confront Gohan, Piccolo, and the Namekian in Black.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Much like many of the other Demon Gods in various Dragon Ball media, Shroom's name is derived from a sauce, specifically mushroom sauce.
  • He is the second demon in the series to wield a scythe, the first being Mamba from Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy.
  • In "Goku Goes to Demon Land," it is mentioned that there are shinigami (death gods) granted permission by King Yemma and Kami to use the Demon Realm Gate, which connects the living world to the afterlife. It is unknown if Shroom has any connection to these shinigami.
