Kibito Kai
Kibito Kai (キビト神 キビト界王神 Kibitoshin) is the result of a Potara fusion between Shin, the Supreme Kai of Universe 7, and his loyal attendant, Kibito.
Appearance
As a fusion of Shin and Kibito, Kibito Kai inherits physical traits from both individuals. He retains Shin’s face and voice while adopting Kibito’s longer hair and taller stature, making him significantly taller than Shin. His outfit varies by source: in the anime, he wears Kibito’s attire, while in the full-color manga, his clothing reflects Shin’s color scheme.
Personality
Although he is a Supreme Kai, Kibito Kai still displays moments of naivety about the universe—something Elder Kai often critiques. Nonetheless, he holds a deep admiration for Earth and its people, especially after witnessing their potential during Beerus’ visit. He’s compassionate, showing concern even for strangers. Despite being a fusion, Kibito Kai sees himself simply as Shin.
Biography
Dragon Ball Z
Majin Buu Saga
Kibito Kai is formed when Shin and Kibito try on the Potara earrings out of curiosity, fusing permanently. Pleased with his new power and appearance, he offers to assist Goku against Super Buu, though Old Kai warns him that even fused, they’re no match. He spends the rest of the saga observing the fight, marveling at Vegito’s strength, and reacting with fear when Buu reverts into Kid Buu—recalling the terror from Shin’s past.
When Kid Buu launches his Planet Burst attack, Kibito Kai teleports Goku, Vegeta, Mr. Satan, Bee, and Dende to the Sacred World of the Kai, narrowly saving them. As the battle moves to their realm, Kibito Kai, Elder Kai, and Dende relocate to a distant planet to watch via Crystal Ball. Later, per Vegeta’s request, they travel to New Namek and use the Dragon Balls to restore Earth and its people.
After Kid Buu’s defeat, Kibito Kai heals the warriors, including the reformed Good Buu, and teleports the group back to Earth. He then returns to the Sacred World of the Kai.
The Return of Son Goku and Friends!
Two years after Kid Buu’s defeat, Kibito Kai and Old Kai attend a banquet hosted by Mr. Satan in honor of those who helped save the world. The event is interrupted by Abo and Kado, alien brothers pursuing Vegeta’s younger sibling, Tarble. Goten and Trunks try to stop them but fail. The brothers fuse into Aka and destroy the hotel with a powerful attack, but are ultimately defeated by Goku’s Kamehameha. After the battle, the group resumes their celebration.
Dragon Ball Daima
By the time of Trunks’ ninth birthday, Kibito Kai has defused, thanks to an unusual process involving Good Buu. Buu had absorbed Kibito Kai, and due to his unique internal environment, the Potara fusion was undone. Buu later expelled Shin and Kibito as separate individuals.
Dragon Ball Super
God of Destruction Beerus Saga
Following Kid Buu’s defeat, Kibito Kai is with Elder Kai on the Sacred World of the Kai when they sense the destruction of a planet. While Kibito Kai initially mistakes Elder Kai’s reaction as distaste for the tea, he learns that the God of Destruction, Beerus, has awakened—posing a massive threat to the universe. They are instructed to avoid provoking him and to prevent any reckless fighters from engaging with him—Goku, in particular.
Kibito Kai mentions Goku is on Earth, assuming no encounter will occur, but King Kai telepathically reveals that Goku is on his planet training—just as Beerus sets off toward him. Alarmed, Elder Kai fears that their meeting could destroy the universe.
During the battle between Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus, Kibito Kai attempts to intervene telepathically, urging them to stop, though they continue fighting. Thankfully, Goku manages to nullify their clashing punches, preventing universal collapse.
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Kibito Kai and Elder Kai sense Champa’s sudden arrival in their universe. When confronted by Champa and Vados, they feign ignorance. Once Champa leaves, Elder Kai insists they gather the Namekian Dragon Balls, assuming Champa is seeking them. After retrieving the Dragon Balls, Kibito Kai unexpectedly uses them to wish himself defused, reverting back into Shin and Kibito. This decision angers Elder Kai, who scolds him for wasting the Potara fusion’s potential.
Golden Frieza Saga
In the anime, Kibito Kai and Elder Kai sense several planets being destroyed but are unsure of the cause. Initially, they suspect Beerus might be responsible, but quickly realize he is still asleep. Elder Kai attempts to investigate by observing activity on another planet—though Kibito Kai mistakenly believes he's spying—only to find him watching a rhinoceros beetle fight.
Universe 6 Saga
Sometime after the events involving Golden Frieza, Kibito Kai visits New Namek to request the use of their Dragon Balls. He wishes to defuse back into Shin and Kibito, expressing that remaining fused feels unnatural. The Namekians grant the wish, and Kibito Kai is successfully separated into the original two individuals.
Dragon Ball GT
Baby Saga
Fifteen years after Kid Buu’s defeat, Kibito Kai returns to action when the parasitic Tuffle, Baby, begins his rampage on Earth and overwhelms Goku in battle. Kibito Kai rescues Goku and transports him to the Sacred World of the Kais. There, Elder Kai reveals a secret Saiyan method that may give Goku the strength to fight back.
With the help of Sugoro, Goku undergoes a painful process to regrow his Saiyan tail using giant pliers. Once his tail is restored, Goku eventually transforms into a Golden Great Ape and, after regaining control, ascends to Super Saiyan 4. Meanwhile, Kibito Kai travels to The Lookout to retrieve the Sacred Water, which is used to purify Earth’s population from Baby’s control.
Goku ultimately defeats Baby—who had possessed Vegeta—by launching him into the Sun's core. Kibito Kai and Elder Kai watch from the Sacred World of the Kais and join others in celebrating Baby’s defeat. However, Elder Kai expresses concern about the overuse of the Dragon Balls, a fear that soon proves true.
Shadow Dragon Saga
Following the release of Black Smoke Shenron, the seven Shadow Dragons are born and scatter across the Earth. Elder Kai explains to Goku and the others that the constant overuse of the Dragon Balls has caused negative energy to accumulate, resulting in the Shadow Dragons’ creation. True to their observational roles, both Kibito Kai and Old Kai choose not to intervene directly, instead watching as Goku battles and defeats each Shadow Dragon to restore balance to the universe.
Film Appearances
Battle of Gods
Four years after Kid Buu’s defeat, Kibito Kai is seen alongside Elder Kai on their homeworld, discussing the awakening of the God of Destruction, Beerus, during a telepathic exchange with King Kai. They reappear after Goku’s battle with Beerus, commenting on Goku's surprising friendship with the God of Destruction. Kibito Kai praises Earth and its people, believing that Goku and Vegeta became stronger and better individuals due to their time among them.
