Gowasu (ゴワス, "Gowasu") is the Supreme Kai of Universe 10 and serves as Zamasu's former master. He is also the lifelink of Rumsshi, the God of Destruction of Universe 10.

At an earlier point in time, Gowasu selected Zamasu, the North Kai of Universe 10, to be his successor as Supreme Kai due to Zamasu's initially perceived pure heart and promising potential. Zamasu, honored by this decision, vowed to work diligently towards achieving universal peace. However, over time, Zamasu's perspective shifted drastically, leading to conflict with Gowasu's teachings and resulting in his eventual betrayal.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Gowasu is an elderly Core Person with light, yellow, wrinkled skin, pointed ears, and white hair styled in a mohawk that flips to the side. His attire includes a gray, yellow-trimmed coat over a violet long-sleeved shirt, a light blue sash, dark blue baggy pants, and white boots. He wears gold and green Potara earrings, signifying his status as a Supreme Kai.

Personality[edit | edit source]

As the Supreme Kai of Universe 10, Gowasu is a wise, humble, and compassionate deity who deeply respects all forms of life, whether good or bad. He is devoted to his role as a God of Creation, understanding the balance needed in the universe and the importance of remaining neutral. Gowasu firmly believes that Supreme Kais should focus on creating life and nurturing mortals while leaving destruction to the Gods of Destruction, a perspective he frequently tries to instill in his pupil, Zamasu.

Gowasu shows patience and dedication in guiding Zamasu, despite his student's growing hostility toward mortals. He tries to persuade Zamasu that their purpose is to observe and guide, not to destroy. However, he often feels frustrated by Zamasu's defiance and aggressive stance, particularly when Zamasu questions the worth of mortal life.

In addition to his wisdom, Gowasu possesses a sense of humor and does not display the negative traits sometimes seen in other Supreme Kais. He is knowledgeable about other universes' histories and understands the power dynamics between gods, respecting the Gods of Destruction, even while acknowledging their immense power.

When Zamasu's plan to assassinate him is revealed, Gowasu takes full responsibility for his mistake in choosing Zamasu as his apprentice. He shows regret but continues to believe that there is still good within Zamasu. This demonstrates his forgiving nature and his belief in redemption.

During the Tournament of Power, Gowasu is shown to be thoughtful and careful in his decisions, sometimes overthinking, which Rumsshi considers his greatest weakness. Despite his tendency to overthink, Gowasu is respectful, mature, and shows gratitude toward his team's efforts, even when they face defeat. Unlike some other Supreme Kais, he accepts his fate calmly when Universe 10 is erased by Zen'ō and Future Zen'ō, quietly accepting the outcome without blame or anger.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Gowasu, the Supreme Kai of Universe 10, chose Zamasu, the North Kai of his universe, as his successor due to his combat prowess and pure intentions. Zamasu was honored by this decision and vowed to strive for universal peace.

Dragon Ball Super: "Future" Trunks Saga[edit | edit source]

Gowasu is first seen with Zamasu, drinking tea and discussing the responsibilities of a Supreme Kai, including the importance of observing and guiding mortals. Zamasu expresses doubt about the worth of mortals, given their history of violence and mistakes. Gowasu stresses that Supreme Kais should focus on creation, not destruction, which is the domain of the Gods of Destruction. However, Zamasu's skepticism only grows over time.

When Beerus, Whis, and Goku arrive, Goku challenges Zamasu to a fight, and Gowasu is surprised by Goku's strength. After the match, Gowasu reprimands Zamasu for his hostility, but Zamasu's distrust of mortals continues to deepen. Gowasu introduces Zamasu to the Time Rings and takes him to the future of the planet Babari, showing him how mortals can progress toward peace. However, Zamasu's disdain for mortals intensifies when he witnesses violence among the Babari people. Zamasu ultimately kills one of the planet's inhabitants, leading Gowasu to scold him for overstepping his boundaries as a Supreme Kai.

Later, Gowasu watches the Tournament of Destroyers on GodTube and discusses the Super Dragon Balls with Zamasu. Gowasu remains unaware of Zamasu's growing obsession with justice and his belief that mortals should be eradicated. When Zamasu plots to assassinate Gowasu and steal his Time Ring, Beerus, Whis, and Goku intervene. Whis uses his Temporal Do-Over ability to reverse time, preventing Gowasu's death and exposing Zamasu's intentions. Beerus then destroys Zamasu, and Gowasu laments his failure to recognize the evil within his apprentice.

Gowasu later learns about the havoc caused by Zamasu's continued existence in an alternate timeline. He travels there with Shin, saving Future Trunks and Future Mai from harm. They witness the fusion of Zamasu and Goku Black into Fused Zamasu, who battles Goku and Vegeta. Gowasu expresses shock at the fusion's immense power and the corruption it represents.

Throughout the battle, Gowasu maintains a position of support for Goku and his allies, though he is horrified by the extent of Zamasu's madness. When Future Zeno arrives and decides to erase the timeline to end Zamasu's threat, Gowasu and Shin return to the present. Gowasu expresses deep regret for his role in appointing Zamasu as an apprentice, accepting the responsibility for the chaos that followed.

Back in Universe 10, Gowasu resolves to be more cautious in selecting his disciples. He locks away the Time Ring, ensuring that it does not fall into the wrong hands again. Despite his disappointment and guilt over Zamasu's actions, Gowasu remains dedicated to his role as a Supreme Kai, vowing to prevent such a catastrophe from occurring in the future.

Future Gowasu[edit | edit source]

Future Gowasu is murdered by Goku Black with his God Split Cut. Shortly after the assassination, his body disappears. After Future Zeno erased the timeline, Whis offered to go back in time and warn Future Beerus about Future Zamasu. This prevents the death of Future Gowasu. In the manga, Future Trunks and Future Mai use the time machine to prevent Future Shin's death and presumably inform him of the threat posed by the two Zamases, which presumably leads him and Future Beerus to prevent Future Gowasu's death, just as their counterparts in the main timeline did.

Universe Survival Saga[edit | edit source]

During the Universe Survival Saga, Gowasu, alongside Rumsshi (Universe 10's God of Destruction) and Kusu (Universe 10's Angel), watched the Zeno Expo, a preliminary event for the Tournament of Power, between Universe 7 and Universe 9. Unlike other Supreme Kais, Gowasu remained silent throughout the event, not commenting on the matches or defending Goku when Bergamo turned the other universes against him. After the expo concluded, he and his companions left without speaking.

Hours before the Tournament of Power, Gowasu grew anxious about selecting the right warriors for Universe 10's team, fearing he might choose someone like Zamasu again. Rumsshi and Kusu reassured him, suggesting he decide with his instincts rather than overthinking. Rumsshi had already chosen ten warriors, led by Murichim, who introduced himself, but they needed a break to drink their protein drinks. Gowasu remained skeptical of the team's readiness. Later, Gowasu was seen recording a video of Kusu, Murichim, and the team dancing on his planet to gain views on GodTube.

Gowasu, Rumsshi, and their warriors participated in the Tournament of Power, a multi-universal tournament deciding the fate of eight of the twelve universes. At the Null Realm, Gowasu watched his team's performance. He was shocked when Rylibeu, a member of his team, was the first to fall off the ring. However, unlike Rumsshi, Gowasu did not scold her and instead encouraged her to support the remaining teammates. He expressed admiration when Napapa managed to save himself from elimination at the last moment and listened as Rumsshi explained Napapa's background.

Gowasu witnessed the erasure of Universe 9, including his counterpart, Supreme Kai Roh, and God of Destruction Sidra, after all their fighters were eliminated. He noticed Mohito, the Angel of Universe 9, smiling suspiciously at this event. Gowasu, like many others, was greatly disturbed by the erasure. Shortly after, he observed Rumsshi chastising Dium for his elimination from the ring.

As more members of Universe 10's team were eliminated, Gowasu began to accept that they were unlikely to win and would face erasure. He offered words of encouragement to his defeated warriors and briefly found hope when Obni had the upper hand over Gohan. However, when Obni was defeated by Gohan, Gowasu calmly acknowledged that Obni had done his best. Gowasu then closed his eyes and waited with quiet acceptance as he and the entirety of Universe 10 were erased from existence.

Gowasu was later revived along with the rest of Universe 10 when Android 17 used the Super Dragon Balls to restore all the erased universes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Name Origin: Gowasu's name is derived from the Japanese verb "gowasu" (ごわす), which translates to "to be." This follows the same naming pattern as his former student, Zamasu.
  • GodTuber Ambition: While watching Goku and Hit's fight on GodTube, Gowasu expressed a desire to become a "GodTuber," which is akin to a YouTuber in the real world.
  • Death Record: Gowasu is the only Supreme Kai known to have died twice.
  • Relationship with Kusu: Despite being Kusu's superior and likely knowing her for thousands of years, Gowasu appeared unaware that she is the eldest child of the Grand Minister. [Citation needed]
  • Knowledge of Potara Fusion: Gowasu is shown to have more knowledge about Potara fusion than Old Kai, which is ironic considering Old Kai himself is the result of a Potara fusion. Old Kai mistakenly believed Potara fusion to be permanent in all cases, which led him to incorrectly inform Goku that the fusion with Gohan would be irreversible. Unlike Gowasu, Old Kai's elderly appearance results from an accidental fusion with an Old Witch, while Gowasu's aged appearance is natural.
